After selecting Education for Living as our theme, we, the class of Elkins of 1962 felt that the entire faculty, administration and school board members deserve this recognition. We believe they all place the welfare of the students a- 2 ation For Living bove everything else and their time can not be valued in dollars and cents. We, the class of 1962, proudly dedicate our yearbook to every teach- er, administrator, and school board member pictured here, (we were un- able to get them all) for their efforts to provide us with the best possible Education for Living. 3 The Administration Speaks A young person's need for a good education today is becoming more acute. This statement has been made down through the ages; however, each era has problems and trying world situations that can only be solved by greater informed groups of people. World Peace, higher social standards of living, better medical practices and facilities throughout the World and the forgetting of prejudices against any race, color or creed are musts to which a solution must be found. Only a tolerance fostered by a more ed- ucated people of the world is going to achieve these goals. It is the task of you students in school to find the area of your greatest abilities and prepare accordingly in order to serve other people and serve them well. i. 5 High School Faculty MR. This was the be- ginning of the four best years of our lives; the years in which our minds, personalities, and habits would grow and develop. Our sophomore year came and we thought nothing could stop us-- we could conquer all. As juniors we worked hard both in school and in extra-curricular activities. Seniors! We realize - or do we? - how much we have done. As seniors we were more busy than ever-Antler staff, Annual staff, ball team, Student Council, and F. H. A. Our Student Council representatives were Philip Jones, John Paschal, Tanya Fields, and Julie Hartwell. The memories of our life as students beneath the purple and white shall remain in our hearts forever. May God bless us all as we journey into our chosen ways of life. Juniors On September 4, 1961, fourteen Juniors enrolled in Elking High, the smallest class of all, and the smallest for many years. Our size has not hindered our pep nor our school loyalty. We have participated ener- getically in school activities. At Christmas we became the envy of the whole school as we waved our brilliant new class rings under the noses of the underclassmen. Our well chosen leaders were Carl Parsley, President, Paul Hoggatt, Vice-President, Betty Jones, Secretary-Treasurer and Alton Higgs, Reporter. Our Sponsor was Mr. Hogan. Our Student Council representatives were Janice Taylor, Shirley Kirksey, Paul Hoggatt, and Ray Fallen. We are looking forward to taking our places as seniors next year. 22 Carl Parsley Betty Jones Paul Hoggatt Barbara Hankins Jerry Rogers Janice Taylor Bill Reed Alton Higgs Shirley Ledford Jerry Don Smith Shirley Kirksey Neal Johnson Ray Fallen Gene Slaughter 23 John Fallen, Vice-President, Jane Hartwell, Secretary-Treasurer, and Larry Poindexter, President SOPHOMORES Enjoy Themselves, But Strive to Learn On September 4, 1961, 37 sophomores returned to begin their second year at Elkins High School. Our student council representatives are: Don Pedro, Susan McManus, Sharon Reed, and Robert Vaught. Annual Staff John Paschal, Mrs. Paschal, Sponsor; Sharon Karr, Tanya Fields, Bill Harris, Betty King. We present to you this annual. We have tried to give a true picture of school life at Elkins School. Years from now we hope you can look back over the pictures you see and smile; the things written will bring back some memory of the fun, the work, the problems solved, and some of the things that might have been forgotten. It is impossible to realize what a tremendous job it is to produce an annual until you have actually been up to your ears in it trying to meet deadlines, but the pride in the finished product more than makes up for the time and effort spent. We thank everyone who helped us in anyway. We hope you like it. 52 t «moons INC
