We, the annual staff, respectfully dedicate this annual in memory of our beloved superintendent and friend Elbert L. Mitchell. This teacher with his understanding, his love of teaching, his love and personal interest for every child in school, gave the student body as a whole a confidence in itself, and faith in our abilities to succeed honestly in life. His unselfish life was an inspiration to all who knew him. He taught us as students that, In helping others you help yourself. Our shop, our home economics department, and our new science building stand as a monument to his memory. His deovtion to duty as he saw it is bestsaid in the words, Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

S UPERIN TEN DEN T’S MESSAGE It has been said that a man's life does not consist in the abundance of things that he owns. I am a firm believer in this idea. Our youth of today has three great decisions to make which will influence their lives forever. They are: 1. Their belief and attitude toward God. 2. Choosing their life's companion. 3. Choosing a vocation. I sincerely believe that the school environment at Elkins is very beneficial in helping the students in making wise choices in regard to these important matters. Few persons, except those on the Elk staff, realize all the work that goes into the production of our annual. Therefore, on receiving your annual amid the accom- panying joys, take time and show gratitude for a task well done.
