SENIOR CLASS PROPHECY On May 22, 1979 the Elkins class of '59 had a reunion in Honolulu, Hawaii. This reunion was scheduled to be at 11:00 a. m. in one of the world-famous Langham Hotels owned by Patsy Langham. As I walked through the door, I glanced at the clock. It was already 11:15; I hurried to the elevator and when the door opened whom should I see but the world's champion racer (he still had his helmet on, I guesshelikes to be prepared forafast get-a-way). As we ascended toward the banquet room which was on the 112th floor, Hubert and I were hurriedly catching up on each others past when the elevator stopped and we were astounded to see Miss Beth Vaught, secretary to the U.S. , escorted by her good friend General Loy Bruce Lefordof the Army Reserves. We were all so over- joyed at seeing each other that we had reached the banquet room before we realized it. As we stepped out of the elevator into the banquet room we were greeted by a lovely hostess, none other than Carol Griffith. I had read recently where Carol had founded her own hospital, as I was so taken in by the beauty of the banquet room, I forgot to congratulate her. Just to think that this roomwas designed and decorated by Robert Stanton, another one of our classmates who had climbed to the pinnacle of success. Speaking of fame, I talked to Johnny Dockery who was a champion surf rider and got his autograph to take home to my small son who was one of his many fans. Lynville Eaton pointed out rather hesitantly that the autograph was written on one of the monogramed napkins manufactured by the Eaton and Sons' Corporation which also manufactures leis and grass skirts. Before I had time to see everyone it was announced that dinner was going to be served. While waiting to be served, my dinner partner (none other than the President of the Cotton Pickers Union, Corky Jones) and I had a very pleasant visit. We were served a delicious meal which included broiled octopus with shredded coconut on top. The meal was planned by Betty Harriman who is the dietician for the Langham Hotels. After the meal was over, we all settled back to hear an old acquaintance, Doctor Loyd Swope, speak on the cure for K. S. T. In case you didn't know, Loyd himself found the cure for this dreaded disease. After the Doctor finished speaking, we were splendidly entertained by that renowned vocalist with the golden throat, Lizzie Pollock. We spent the rest of the afternoon catching up on each other's past. Oh, I forgot there were two latecomers to the reunion; Mart Tate and Glen Ledford, it seems they had car trouble and had to walk fifteen miles. I learned later that Glen and Mart were co-owners of several garages throughout the country. I can safely say that everyone had a most enjoyable time at the reunion and I was happy to find that they had all done so well. Jane Pitts, Gossip Editor ELKINS DAILY TRIBUNE
