SUPERINTENDENT’S MESSAGE This annual records the outstanding events of the school year, 1957-58. The pictures, and historic narrative will remind us in the years to come of the experiences through which we have lived together during this school year.. There has been experiences which the photographer cannot portray, experiences which we cannot write downor describe. These have to do with intellectual, moral and spiri- tual growth. If the school has been to us this year all that it should, there have beenfor us many such experiences as these. We should realize now that in no way are we what we were nine months ago. There should be evidence of growth, progress, and develop- ment. We cannot see these things but in the future, as we read these pages, and live over again in memory of the long ago, there should come to each of us the recollection of this larger and better development which we attained during the year 1957-58. This development of ourselves should portray itself in lives of increasing service and usefulness. Our months together will not have been in vain if out of these experiences we have learned to invest our talents and all of our resources for the uplift and better- ment of our fellowmen. I have never worked with a more cooperative student body. The boys and girls of Elkins have signified in many ways that they are thinking young ladies and gentlemen with a purpose in life. It is my wish that each of you will so conduct your life that I may point to you with pride and say. That is one of my pupils. ELBERT L. MITCHELL

DEDICATION We, the 1958 Elk Staff, wish to dedicate this year's annual to Mr. Johnny Brewer. His patience and willingness to help have set an example for all of us, and we sincerely believe that he deserves all credit that may be given him. This dedication can never repay him but is, rather a token of appreciation and admira- tion for one who is tops in every way.
