Alfred Bennett Kay McCreight fit , Af' ul Pat Shrauner , Y ' ' 1 Tl 'ffm N llarlan Cooke Eldon Rcazin Cfadd ,Nbforg written by Harlan Cooke On a warm September Day in 1942, if you had looked upon the first grade class room, in the old grade school building, among the many pupils you would have seen these bright and shining faces: Alice Sagebiel, Shirley Grasz, Rex Studebaker, Sharon Richterberg, Bobby Walsh, Alfred Bennett, Pat Shrauner, Donna Ketchum, and yours truly, Harlan Cooke. Miss Maryetta was our first grade teacher. Mrs. Emberton was our second grade teacher. This was the year Sammie Gamble joined us. Roberta Shrauner taught the third grade and the first semester of the fourth grade. Miss Mitchell taught the second semester. That year Bill Riley and Boyd Sherwood joined the class, Mrs. Soupiset was our fifth grade teacher, with Mr. Majors teaching us mathematics. That was the year Eldon Reazin joined us. Mr. Majors was our sixth grade teacher. That year we were the oldest class in the grade school. The next year we came to the High School building with Pat Brown and Verna Simmons joining our class. The highlight of our eighth grade was our Eighth Grade Graduation. Our Freshman year Bob Swafford, Don Fisher, Lester and Neva Smith, Kelvin Coen and Kay McCreight joined us. Charla Childs entered our class in our Sophomore year. That year we also lost a fellow student, Pat Brown, who moved to Arizona. The highlights of our Junior year were our play, Head First, and the Junior-Senior Banquet with the theme, Evening in Paris. Our Senior year Darlene Coen, Don Brandner, Bob Sipes, Mary Denning and Pat Brown joined us. This year there have been many highlights, the outstanding of these being the building of the new gym and auditorium, the Junior-Senior Banquet with the theme of Moonlight and Roses, our Senior play, Deadly Earnest, the Senior trip to New Orleans, and of course, Baccalaureate, Class Night and Graduation. We have hit only a few of the important events of our 12 years of school. But I am sure that those we know have watched us journey through these l2 years with many memories. The Senior Class of 1954 leaves Elkhart High School with many memories and I believe we each leave a part of ourselves behind.
