561 The llks opened the 1945 football season with Superintendent N. H. Chaney as Coach. On the third week of football practice Mr. Ponnie Ames took over the coaching of the Elks. The football squad was composed of twenty-eight members. The team as a whole was light but had many outstanding pointsp ons of these was sportsmanship, which every member atrived toward Ons of the most successful plays of the season was when Harold Burke made a touchdown on the first play of the game with Trinity. This was one of Coach Ames' most favored plays for the Elks. Despite the losing of some of the games, the Elks staged hard-fought games throughout the season.
