FUOTBALL ACHIEVEHENTS On September 17, after two weeks of hard workouts under their new coach, Mr. F1tts, the Elks downed Groesbeck 7 to 0 on their own field. Coach's home town saw a good non-conference game On September 24, Fairfield gave us a visit with a nonconference game, only to receive a 21 to 6 setback On October 1 came the mighty Sandies! With several Elk stars on the sideline and no substitues, Grapeland whitewashed us 31 to 0 in our first conference game October 8 the Elks gavt Corrigan a 20 to 0 licking in a conference game on our field, then Ol October lo the Elks moved to Alto to receive a 14 to 20 defeat in e non conference game October 22 the Elks failed to click, losing e tight, hard fought conference game to Crockett 12 to 6 On October 2C the Elks defeated Fairfield in a rematched non conference game 18 to 0 The Elks moved over to Madisonville on November 12 and brought home another conference game 27 to 0 Then on November 19 the Elks showed their willpower, manpower and ability but failed to hold those 'Hornets from Huntsvzlle as the game came to an end with Huntsville 14 and Elkhart 0 The fans, the coach, and the players were well pleased as the season came to a successful finish Qeason's Record Won 0 and lost 4 Scored 113 points and had scored against us 83 VARION HORTMAN BASKETBALL After two weeks rest from football the Elks opened their basketball because of lack of experienced men and practice After another week of practice the rlks again were beaten by Woodhouse to the tune of 48 to 6 The Plks journeyed to Crockett on December, 1943 to an 1nvitation tournament, losing one game to Crockett and one to Centerville, and winning one from Austonia From then on the Elks showed power and skill on the court bvbeating Elocum 9 to 0, Crockett 37 to 17, Grapeland 27 to 24, and in a return game with frockett, beat them 30 to 2a As th1s goes to press, the Plks still have the conference season before them with plenty of prom1se of taking the district JACK SPENCER I I H season against Woodhouse and were snowed under by a score of 33 to 17 eb. i ' ,y
