CLASS PROPHECY In a plush bedroom of his mansion Mr. Thibert lies awake even though his alarm is not set to go off for a couple of hours yet. He can't get back to sleep because he is excited about today's activities. The Elk Rapids graduating class of 1976 is honoring his 75th birth- day with a class reunion at the Sip Sc Bite, now ow ned by Mary Vasquez. As he lies there thinking of the good old days back at Elk Rapids, he realizes what a long way he's come since then. It all started when he quit teaching back in 1977. School just wasn't the same without the class of 76 so he resigned and invested his money into his favorite sport, hockey. He bought some land from land -tycoon Eric Hendrickson and built Icicle Dome and gave Ron Dahl and Scott Whiteford a job running the place. He also put Dave Bosner and Tim Powell to work sweeping the place out. The local hockey team, the E. R. Rivers, had an undefeated first year, thanks to the fine playing of Greg Weinzappel and Carl Lake. Unfortunately, Carl had to quit after his first year to go to Alaska with Dave Lundy and Ron Sobbry. Yessir, there were some big things that took place in Icicle Dome. Take the time dare- devil Bill Mielke jumped over 12 of Mark Oatley's trucks. Or the time the famous rock group NESS, featuring lead singer and guitar player Dan Coats, packed the Dome but couldn't appear because of technical difficulties. There was almost a riot but thanks to the gallant efforts of police officers Steve Bratschi, Rick Hirt and Allen Myers, order was main- tained. Mr. Thibert is snapped from his reminiscing by the sound of Larry Couturier and Mark Bauer, co -Dis on WERM. They're introducing Jenny Williams' new hit, a guitar instrument- al. There's a knock on the'door and Kathy Greiner, Mr. Thibert's maid, enters with his breakfast. Each morning he has the same thing, eggs from Greg Tulpa's Farm and Rice Krispies with peaches on top. The peaches are from Nagy's, picked fresh by Iill every morning. Over the cerealihe pours fresh milk from Neva Veliquette's dairy farm. After breakfast Mr. Thibert buzzes for his secretary, Bernie Reilly, and asks that his chauffeur, Gary Smith, bring his car around and pick him up. As he dresses in his best suit, custom tailored by Carrie Revitzer and Sarah Schlagel, he thinks about how good it will be to see the old class again. Many have become quite famous. Jim Holcomb, author of How I Remember Patton, is going to be one of tonight's speakers along with Laurie Whiteford, who is now a Millionaire because of her miracle freckle removing cream. Some of the other famous people expected at tonights activities are boxer Gary Pierce, now heavy weight champion of the world, baseball star A1 Vasquez, 14 time all-star pitch- er, broadway actress Bonnie Iulin, and Tammie McLain, personal secretary to the Presi- dent of the United States. As Mr. Thibert leaves his house hisibutler, Doug Marker, hands him the mail just de- livered by Post Woman Mary Kinney. The first letter is from Don Marker. Unfortunately, Don won't be able to make the reunion because he's just sprained his ankle and Doctor Dave Moody says no traveling. Too bad too, so soon after winning the mile in the Olympics. The next letter is a bill from Orthodontist Mike Merchant, followed by a post card from world travelers Chris Galligan and Sue Kerkhof, and a bill from the Ashley Brothers for painting
