Compliments of L, G, BALFOUR The 1953 track season was a far cry from a success if we con- sider only losing or winning meets, but it was successful inasmuch as the past season established track as one of the three major sports in our atheletic program, We did not win a single meet, but names such as B. Inlow, B. Imhoff, N, Bennett, R, Schwatken, B. Sailor, R. Burns, D. Daratt, S. McMurray, and J. Welch, the lettermen, nearly al- ways appeared in the winning columns of the score sheet. Stalwart B. Inlow and B. Imhoff lead the way in capturing firsts and seconds, while the other squadmen were winning on occasional first, and numerous seconds, third, fourth, and fifth places. With inadequate facilities at home the Red Devils were handicapped and forced to have all meets away. We participated in meets at Caney, Moline, Fredonia Relays, Sedan, Neodesha, and the Black Jack League meet at Coffeyville. B. Inlow, B. The team, classed by many fans as the best in the past several years, was powerful because they worked together an sacrificed for the good of the team as a whole . Highlighting the season was a Co-Champlo ship crown in the Blackjack League. In winning this Co-Championship, Elk City established itself as a champion for the first time since the league was formed. Other highlights of the season were the winning of third place in the Moline Invitational Tourney, and a second place victory at Howard in the Class B District Tourney, thus earning the Red Devils a spot in the State Regional Play-offs .
