Forestry and wood technology is a two-year program design- ed to train students in forest management and wood utilization. Students usually take their first year of study at any one of the community colleges and must take their second year at the Wood Utilization Center at Quicksand, Kentucky. Upon com- pletion of the program, a student receives an Associate Degree in Applied Sciences and is immediately employed either by such private industry as the wood pulp industry or by any one of the Federal parks.

Freshman nursing students learning under the supervision of the clinical instructor, Mrs. Martha Hill, the tech- nique of taking vital signs. This type of program provides a means of correlating the philosophy and standards of nursing education with those of gener- al education. The overall standards and policies of Elizabethtown Community College apply to the program in nursing. The Asso- ciate Degree program is designed to fulfill the educational needs of qualified high school graduates (or those holding a high school equivalency diploma) (1) who want to prepare for nursing in a relatively short time and (2) who want to study in a multi-purpose collegiate institution where they share the responsibilities, privi- leges, intellectual and social experiences with all the other studen Students of nursing meet the requirements of Elizabethtown Community College and its nursing program for admission, con- tinuation, and graduation. Instruction in all areas of the curriculum, including the Arts ts. and Sciences is provided by College faculty members. The nursing faculty plans, organizes, and implements the nursing courses; the nursing instructors select, supervise, and evaluate all learning experiences including those in the various clinical practice areas. 23

PHYSICAL EDUCATION | To add variety to the curriculum, physical education courses are offered at ECC. In addition to fencing and bowl- ing, golf and tennis have been offered. The facilities of the Elizabethtown Par-Three Golf Course have been offered for our use. The tennis lessons are taught at the Memorial Recre- ation Center's tennis courts. The students enjoy physical education classes in which they earn one hours credit. Fencing, our newest addition to physical education, is taught by Monsieur Coeur, who also furnishes all the needed fencing equip- ment. Bowling lessons are provided for the stu- dents by Dix-E-Town Lanes under the guidance of Mr. B. L. Taylor. All equip- ment is furnished by the lanes. 25
