CHEMISTRY Student experimentation in chemistry is considered an important part of the curriculum. The new chemistry facilities are among the finest for any junior college in Kentucky. Students have access to the most modern equipment avail- able in chemistry. We offer all chemistry courses which are re- quired for the first two years of a chemistry major or chemistry related areas. These courses include general chemistry , quantita- tive analysis and organic chemistry.

This Ty truth necessitates that the modern American has some know- res ledge of the contributions of Political Science. Basic courses in Political Science endeavor “to provide orientation and training high in the problems of citizenship. In addition, these courses are ge fundamental to students planning to enter the fields of law, ber af social science teaching, and governmental work. Ores st at - SOCIOLOGY While a study of the past may provide the individual with perspec- tive about the present, the social complexities of society often are overwhelming. Sociology endeavors to analyze the “fundamental processes of group relationships, social organi- zations, and social behavior” and leads to a better understanding of this social environment. The College offers basic Sociology courses for students whose vocational plans in- clude law, social work, industrial relations, the ministry, planning and zoning, high school social science teaching, and various positions in public and governmental agencies.

SSE anco PHYSICS Although the classes are small, science and engineering students at ECC perform a variety of experiments utilizing a well-equipped physics laboratory. The first two years of virtually every engineering and physics program offered by the state universities of Kentucky can be completed at Elizabethtown. In addition, a special physics course for pre-med students is offered. ASTRONOMY A fascinating study, new equipment in- cluding a six-inch Newtonian reflector tele- scope, and recent advances in space have combined to make astronomy one of the most popular courses offered. Its non-math- ematical descriptive approach meets the needs of our non-science majors as well as our science and engineering students. There are eighty-five currently enrolled in Astronomy.
