Non-credit English classes have supplied the students with the basic fundamen¬ tals if they feel a need for a more stable foundation before entering regular composition classes. 12 EI GL1SH J. Students partici¬ pating in the program read various selections in fic¬ tion and the Classics. Although many students bewail this mournful situation, it should be noted that upon completion of such courses as freshman compo¬ sition, most students realize the necessity of taking the course. Susie Brown Susie Thornberry The purpose of Kappa Phi Kappa is to serve the community to the best of their ability by upholding the ideas of sisterhood, femininity, and by Christian morality. The sorority maintained these ideals in various ways during the past year. They sponsored a summer fashion exhibit with the proceeds going toward a scholarship fund; they held a slave sale at the beginning of the year in which the sorority pledges were put on the “auction block“, with prices ranging from twelve cents to ten dollars; the sorority held a retreat at Otter Creek for both actives and pledges; and the sorority won the first place trophy for overall achievement in the Little Bitty Kentucky Derby festivities. 32 K K AT OTTER CREEK I ' d rather eat out of the college vending machine! Susan Davis The purpose of SNEA is to develop among prospective teachers an understanding of the teaching profession through participation in the work of local, state, and national education associations; to give students practical experience in working together on the problems of the profession and the community, and to secure increased public interest and support for education. 50 This past year SNEA sponsored the Regional spelling bee for grades one through eight; attended the state SNEA convention in Louisville; and through ‘’Books For India” sent several hundred books to needy people in India. Linda Pinero of Nazareth goes amund end for a substantial gain. With a team like this no wonder we won! 66 The pie eating contest followed the football game.
