I know that this day is one of special happiness for the Sisters of Charity, for the students and alumnae of the high school, their parents and the very many friends of Elizabeth Seton. Their interest and their efforts have brought this building into being. As they see the new structure designed to extend and to enrich the Works of Elizabeth Seton High School, I know that they will join me in giving thanks to Almighty God. MOTHER M. CLAUDIA Mother Superior of the Sisters of Charity Seton Hill, Greensburg, Pennsylvania It was through Mother Claudia's desire to estab- lish a school for girls under the special patronage of Mother Seton, that Elizabeth Seton High School came into being. It was she who transacted the purchase in 1941 of the original building. With a deep convic- tion that such a school would flourish, her faith and prayer brought a long hoped-for dream to reality. Courage, deeply-rooted in faith, should charac- terize every Seton woman, were the words Mother Claudia spoke to the girls in the first graduating class in 1945. This same message can well be extended to us, the class of '53, today. . Virol SISTER REGINA CLARE Principal 1941-1947 Always linked with the name of Elizabeth Seton High School will be the name of Sister Regina Clare, who laid the foundation for the present ESHS. Under her wise super- vision as principal, the present school opened, grew, and developed. Because of her far-reaching vision and unfal- tering trust, ESHS enjoys the reputation it holds today. Her profound devotion to Mother Seton was the whet- stone of her activities. Unwaveringly Sister Regina Clare met all challenges during those first years in establishing the school. Of her can be said: Who shall find a valiant woman? Far and from the uttermost coasts is the price of her . . . She hath opened her mouth of wisdom, and the law of clemency is on her tongue . . . Give her of the fruit of her hands and let her works praise her in the gates. SISTER MARY AGNES Principal 1947-1952 Administrator 1952-1953 Sister Mary Agnes . . . advisor, principal, ad- ministrator, under whose guidance and wisdom the plans for the new Elizabeth Seton High School were devised. ln His Will is our peace, truly is the key- note of all her endeavors. Because she held securely to her deep trust in Mother Seton, financial worries and building problems never overwhelmed her. When apparently insurmountable difficulties came her way, Sister's only remark was, We'll put this in Mother Seton's hands and leave the rest to God. The new ESHS building will stand as a tribute to her sac- rifices and accomplishments. 4-q
