BECOME AN ALUMNUS NOW Elizabeth City State University has made a number of great strides in the last few years — evidence of dedication to the motto of Excellence without Excuse on the part of many people. Much of this is attributable to you — as students and alumni. Let me now ask a very serious question for your consideration. What could conceivably happen to your school and its programs if you were to become an active alumnus — now? (You can become actively involved as a member of the Pre-Alumnl Club.) As you ponder that question allow me to share with you some of the things that I see. First, the roles of various alumni chapters would begin to swell and the important work of the association will be lightened because more people will be sharing that responsibility. Secondly, the concept of regionalization, which is being promoted by the General Alumni Association, will take on new meaning and really accelerate. This act alone could mean more students which means so very much to the continued survival of Dear Ole ECSU. Thirdly, as the involved alumni do their work and reach more and more potential students we begin to realize new programs, new facilities, and an increased faculty and staff, just to name a few things. The ripple effect of becoming an active alumnus now is very far- reaching and this writing does not in any way exhaust the potential of such a major undertaking. One additional benefit of becoming an alumnus now is that for the remainder of your stay here you will be able to see some of the fruits of your labor. Mrs. Thorpe and I would like to encourage those of you who are to return to enjoy the remainder of your stay here. To those of you who are leaving, we hope that you have had a pleasant stay. May both groups continue to make the very best of every situation. May you always enjoy success, happiness and good health. Sincerely, fXj jjd ' i iS . 4 jjju Marion D. Thorpe Chancellor
