Ni S 1 5 s s 3 1 'x 5 'B PRGPHECY I listened to a brilliant radio program which brought to my mind a vision, not of the past, but of the future. I saw clearly the members of the class of '34 at their various vocations. Marion Savin, world famous architect, was sitting at a carved mahogany desk drawing up the plans for another skyscraper. He keeps those under him running to the dictionary. Pretty, auburn-haired Allie Mae Jennings is his private secretary. Although immaculate and more stylish than ever, she still knows her old friends. Shelton Scott, who was the excellent manager of the E. C. H. S. football team, is also successful at Columbia University, for he knows well the feelings of the boys. Claiborne Nixon, captain of the home team, is now coaching at Princeton. Lockwood Lassiter, stellar E. C. H. S. quarterback, has attained the All-American. William Fore- man, a three letter man of E. C. H. S., is Duke's second man for All-American honors. In later life Woody will follow in his father's footsteps by becoming manager of some large lumber mill. Frances Lister is head of a millinery shop on Main Street. Her gracious as- sistants are Hazel Stokes, Mary L. Seymour and Alma Litchfield. Fascinating Miriam Sherlock and Retha Needham are starring in Angels on Earth with cheerful Alton Cohoon and sentimental Thomas McKimmey. Garland Bowden, a renowned lawyer, and the well-known cartoonists, Jack Weeks and Edward Tillitt, are spending their vacations abroad. Curly headed Manson Meekins and his collaborator, Fred Merritt, are doing re- search work in Egypt. Conservative Edward Ganderson has recently open an S shop on Fifth Avenue. His mannequins are alluring Margaret Bateman, Winsome Marie Davis, petite Helon Lassiter, attractive Mardell Swain, and charming Marjorie Davis. Vivacious Myra Hopkins and Nancy Hall Sawyer are kindergarten teachers in New York City. Beryl Hobbs and Roger Shannonhouse, professional dancers, have opened an ex- clusive night club in Chicago. Among others, they have in their orchestra talented Ann Elizabeth Spence, Ruth Benton, Abbott Bailey, Norman Davis and James Cooper. Energetic Carolyn Aydlett now has a private hospital in Raleigh. Competent Annie Wood Provo is the Superintendent of Hospital and Mary Elizabeth Hill is the Superintendent of Nurses. Sedate Helen Whitehurst, Sarah Tarkington and Helen Reichle are now teaching in Elizabeth City High School with Harold Overman as Superintendent of the schools. His ready wit has made him popular with both the faculty and students. Genial Edward Bray and scholarly Ruth Sanderlin have become celebrated singers. Ed's fan mail has grown so bulky that his efficient secretary, Estelle Cox, is constantly busy. The Savings Bank has reopened with Winfred Dail as president, Columbus Forbes as cashier, Fred Drinkwater as teller, Marion Ballance as stenographer and Margaret Bailey as bookkeeper. Edwin Hastings, Julian Hooper, Walter Le-wis, William Mid- gett and Raymond Rhodes are all on the board of directors. Good-looking James Provo operates the Bluebird Bus Line. His capable drivers are John Miller, David Hill and Wilbur Evans. Changeable Clarence Culpepper has taken over his father's automobile- business: delightful Alma Davis is his bookkeeper, and his Melvin Wright his star salesman. Ene-rgetic Annie Brown and Margaret Sawyer operate a beauty salon, they are very successful. Grace Gaskins and Elizabeth Freeman have made a non-stop flight across the United States, beating all previous records. Sanford Aydlett is owner of the Aydlett Products Company. He is still partial to green suits. Virginia Newbern and Katherine Greenleaf are sob sisters for the Washington Herald. Joe Stoke-s, of the school-girl complexion, now is manager of one of Pender's stores. Slender Julian Cofield is his trusted helper. Volatile Sybil Ambrose has opened a candy kitchen and has as her qualified assistants Dorothy Knight, Mary Godfrey and Addie Davis. Margare-t Davis, Eleanor Raper and Sarah Payne are couteous clerks in McCabe and Grice. Frances Wells is the first woman president of the United States. The able mem- bers of her cabinet are Delbert Jackson, Secrtary of Warp Elliott Morgan, Secretary of State: Andrews White, Secretary of the Treasuryg Wilson Owens, Secretary of the Navyg Ida Brock, Secretary of Commerce, John Griffin, Secretary of Interior, Henry Gregory, Secretary of Agriculture: Emma Lee Simpson, Postmaster General, Hugh Deans, Secretary of Labor and Joshua Munden, Attorney-General. A sudden storm came up, and as there was so much static, my vision ended and I turned the radio off. MARTHA SPRUILL. in A m as . ra. N 9 4. -4. 4 .. 0 . 0- . w no J v -- - ay 1- Q' w' IQ: N X Z f 4
