Calendar of the School Year Oct. 29—Registration. Oct. 30—First day of school. “Frohes Wiedersehen.” No. 4—Before coming to school—Two students, Elizabeth Hildebrandt and Jake Olfert unite in holy matrimony. “And they lived happily ever after.” No. 11—Our “Eröffnungsprogramm.” Dec. 4-7—Sunday School teachers’ course; good attendance. Dec. 11—George Reimer comes back from a three weeks’ trip to Mexico. Dec. 14—Mr. Frank Epp speaks on “Youth” at our weekly mission prayer meeting. Quotable Quote: “Man cannot live by bread and football games alone.” Dec. 15—Marie goes home to Leamington, Ont., for her Christmas holidays. Dec. 22—“Familienabend.” Dec. 23—“Weihnachtsprogramm” and Christmas holidays. Jan. 7—Back from our two weeks of supposed leisure. Five new students have joined our ranks in the Halls of Learning. Welcome! Jan. 10—We all looked our very best; pictures taken for the yearbook! This is also the memorable day when Marie most emphatically informed third dass as to what’s Biblical. Mr. Teichroeb, unnoticed, walked in and heard most of it! Now he knows, too! Jan. 14—First “Probepredigt” of the year by Eddie Cornelson. “Well begun is-”?! Jan. 15-17—Examinations to finish off our first term. Jan. 21—Mr. Harry Martens speaks to us on the A.U.G.” degree (Approved unto God). Missions committee shows a most challenging film, “Missionary to Walker’s Garage.” Jan. 22—Mr. Harvey Toews informs us on Voluntary and Summer Service. Jan. 26—The Billy Graham film “Eastward to Asia” shown in our auditorium. That wistful expression on the faces of our third dass students can only mean one thing: they heartily wish they’d seen the film before they wrote their essays on “Evangelism.” Jan. 28—Birthday party and Social sponsored by the Student body in honor of Mrs. and Mr. Rempel on their seventieth and seventy-first birthdays, respectively. Jan. 30—Lenora, Elva and Tina have reached the most crucial stage in second dass, viz., public speech before the dass. That woe-begone look on their faces would touch the most relentless heart—except Mr. Wiebe’s, that is! Jan. 31—A sudden interest is shown by first classers in the book “Bobbsd hair, bossy wives and women preachers.” I wonder, now, could “Exegese” have anything to do with it? Feb. 1—“All through the week.” A beautiful Friday and almost everyone departs for home. “Goodbye, Wa-a-nda!” Feb. 9, 10—Some forty students take a trip to render programs in the “wild and woolly west.” Churches visited are Rivers, Lena, Crystal City and Whitewater. Feb. 16, 17—Another excursion east, to Steinbach, Grunthal, Spencer and Arnaud churches. Feb. 20—A little girl, Linda Marie, has come to take up permanent residence at the home of Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Gerbrandt. Congratulations! Feb. 22-24—Mission Conference. Mar. 2, 3—Programs rendered in St. Elizabeth, Pigeon Lake, Niverville and Springstein. Mar. 4—Third and fourth dass students spend a most enjoyable day visiting C.M.B.C. Mar. 19—Re-yearbook, 1953, “Remember when?” No, we still don’t remember the Monday morning when all the students knew their “Choral” from memory. It is with a feeling of mixed emotions that our graduates realize they never again will return to “Elim” as students. But we do thank them for their contribution towards making this a year of wonderful fellowship and adding to our störe of cherished memories. Mar. 31—“Schulszfest.”
