MR. GERBRANDT, LI N DA SCHULZ, MARIE NEUFELD (SECRETARY), MR. HENRY TOEWS, LAWRENCE SIEMENS (PRESIDENT) The Christian Witness Just before Christ ascended into heaven He left His disciples this commandment: “But ye shall receive power after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.”—Acts 1:8. How thankful we are that these disciples wit- nessed for Christ with zeal and courage. They were on fire for the Lord. Because of them we today have the Gospel in our hands. Would that we leam from them and do likewise. God is giving us the opportunity of being witnesses for Him today. We too can teil others about the love of God through word and deed. It is the Mission Committee’s privilege to foster the Mission Spirit in “Elim.” There are several ways in which we try to do this. Every Friday morning at 11:30 we gather in the auditorium for a Mission Prayer Meeting. Fifteen minutes are spent in hearing a report given by a Student or a guest Speaker, on a specific Mission field. For the remaining fifteen minutes we divide into groups, and go to prayer, remembering requests that have been mentioned in the report. Showing of films is also a method used, and one we find has a challenge for us. Who will forget the challenging message from the film “Missionary to Walker’s Garage?” We reahze we have not reached our Standard; much remains to be done. However it is our sincere prayer that every Student may answer the call of the Lord, and be a true witness. Marie Neufeld. 20

GEORGE REIMER, PHVLLIS KROEKER GRACE HEINRICHS (SECRETARV), MR. WIEBE Music Committee MUSICAL INSPIRATION Singing plays a vital part in our school. It adds life and beauty to Elim. Choir practices, which we have twice a week, are introduced with voice, vowel and consonant practices, which help to improve our singing. These brief periods of hearty singing in which we sing chorales, hymns and gospel songs are the highlights of the week. To widen our knowledge of music, we now have a record player in school. Records like the “Messiah” are enjoyed very much. We are also planning a project which will help us build a library of good records. To better acquaint us with the chorales in the “Gesangbuch,” our committee finds a suitable chorale for each week, that is to be memorized and sung in morning devotions. Another duty of our committee is to divide the students into different groups. On Thursday nights these groups go to the shut-ins and old folks who cannot go to church, and serve them with several songs. The group leader also reads a portion of Scripture and prays. The local hospital is visited twice a week. Our aim as students of the Elim Bible School is, that people, who hear these songs, may be blessed, comforted, and strengthened through them. Phyllis Kroeker. 22
