CLASS PROPHECY After serving in the United States' Women's Air Force for twenty years, I decided to retire. I had become a general so I had attained my goal. After retiring, I decided to take a trip around the world. So packing my clothes and calling a cab. I went to the airport. Upon arrival here. I found a large group of people talking excitedly about some famous athlete. I finally managed to squeeze through the crowd and came face to face with him. Much to my surprise it turned out to be one of my old classmates, lim Borotf. I talked to him a few moments and found out that he had just won the world's track award by running the mile in 43 seconds. When asked how he won it, he replied, I just pretended there was a beautiful blond waiting for me. and I let my conscience be my guide. We got to recalling school days and I asked him about some of our classmates. He said that he saw lean Driver and Stella Frysinger on television the other night. It seems that lean held the national women's wrestling title and challenger Stella beat her by a bear hug. Iim also said that Ann Breneman was running tor President of the United States this fall, and that, if elected. she would get this country out of its financial crisis by not vacationing as much as men Presidents had. Finally I had to say goodby to Iim and get on my plane. I was just about to sit down when a man came running down the aisle and pushed me out of the way, taking my seat. I was going to give him a piece of my mind when I happened to get a good look at him. It was none other than lack Shook. When I asked why he had been so rude Iack re- plied, I work as an elevator operator in the Empire State Building and I don't have any place to sit while I work. Yes, sir, Iack always told me he was going to go up in the world! I wanted more information about the classmates so I asked lack if he had heard about any of them. He said that lack Kruse and Charles Harrod had devel- oped a new type oi tires. It seems that whenever the tire runs over a nail the tire pushes the nail back out and seals itself up again. The only trouble with these tires is that in the summer they become sticky. You see they are made out of bubble gum. lack also said that Anne Stevenson had just won the World's Roller- Skating and Fancy Figures award. Thinking of Anne, Iack asked me if I knew anything about some of her old pals. I told him that Ioan Rhodes had become a great opera singer. Right now she was making a per- sonal appearance in Carnegie Hall. Her manager is Carroll Cox. Oh yes, Ioan's leading man is Robert Lyons. Rosalie Kieswetter is married and she and her husband own a 1500 acre ranch in Texas. Her house has 23 rooms. Bill Gahman also lives in Texas. I heard that he struck oil one day when he accidentally dropped his shoe and the heel sunk in the ground. He hired lim Fletcher to go about dropping his shoe. Iust at this point, Iack and I were interrupted by dinner. While I was eating I noticed someone staring at me. I looked closely and saw no one else but Deloris DeVore. After saying hello to her I asked her what she was doing now. She said she was married. and she was on her way to see her only son, now at West Point. She said that she had seen Elaine Davidson a couple days before and she was owner of a race track. Two of our classmates, Bob Messick and LaDoyt Little were horse jockeys there. After a night's rest on the plane I arrived in San Francisco, California. I decided to stay here a couple of days so I hailed a cab and headed for a hotel. I was going along looking at the signs when I saw a huge hotel called Hinton's Hotel. I had heard that Barbara Hinton had moved to California so I told the taxi driver to stop and let me out. As I started through the doors I saw Bob Edwards and Marlene Miller, who, as I found out later, were married, coming toward me. Bob was attending a dairyman's convention and Mar- lene had come to star in a play in one of the nearby theaters. After leaving Marlene and Bob, I went to register. expecting to see Barbara. Instead I found Evonne Stewart smiling at me. She said that Barbara did own the hotel, but she and her private secretary, Shirley Shock, were in Florida on a vacation. Evonne told me that lane McKinney was principal of one of the high schools in San Francisco, and that Susan Cremean was head of the University of California. The next stop on my trip was the Hawaiian Islands. I had been there only a few hours when I met Wilmer Hartman. He had come to these Islands because he was jilted by his girl and wanted to live the rest of his life as a hermit. He said he had planned to move to Alaska, but changed plans when he found out that Don Crowe had moved there because he too was jilted. I now was on my way to Korea. This was now a beauty spot of the world, but even now some of our armed forces are there. I decided to pay our commander a visit. As I was walking down one of the streets, I saw three American sailors coming toward me. As I glanced up at them, I saw them smile at me and say my name. Looking at them again. I discovered three old classmates, Max Cisco, Bill Desenberg, and lohn Miller. They took me to lunch in a little cate and there I found Patti Bryan singing. Patti told me that lohn Githens was the pro- prietor of the place. When lunch was over I said goodbye to the boys and continued on my way to the commander who turned out to be a friend of mine, too, Tom Mitchell, but now he was a general. I then went on my way. Not until I came to Paris, France. did I meet anyone else I knew, There I met Dorothy Edwards and Treva Collins. Dorothy was an expert stylist and Treva was her model. Dorothy told me that Bob Miller was in Paris attending an International Methodist Meeting. I had planned to visit other countries but my time was running short. so I returned to New York. Here I met Betty Unland and Blanche Sanders. They were working as waitresses in the restaurant at the airport. I took a bus for Washington. D. C., and the bus driver turned out to be Bob Hostetler. Returning home I found a new dentist in town. He was Eldon Stirn, and Norma Stevenson was his nurse. As I wearily neared my house I noticed Barbara Cain and her three children going to the park for a picnic. Walking into my living room I found my ol' pal, Ruth Keller, who had just been released from the Women's Air Force because of her health. My trip was now at an end for I had seen all the wonderful people who had been my classmates at Elida High School. -Patsy Follas.
