Captain Ron Ultes captured the individual batting championship for the third consecutive year: batting .358 in '48, .3l2 in '49, and .403 in '50. Varsity Golf Team Competing against a field of autstandingly good golf teams, EHS linksmen failed to make a very brilliant showing during the season. Chris Kobel, T65 pound class wrestler, was the only EHS grappler to reach the quarterfinal bout in the state tournament, Co-captains of the team were George Elliott and Floyd Radde. awe N Varsity Swimming Team When the final race was over and the final tallies in, the first swimming team in the history of EHS had competed in five meets and had turned in an excellent record in spite of its lack of seasoned mermen. Stop Watches Clock Varsl As spring rolled around, there was a glint in the eyes of Track Coach Chet Alexander. Optimism prevailed among the cindermen regarding the coming events. Re- turning maior and minor lettermen to the 1950 track season were Dave Mumme, a threat in the high lump and pole vault, George Arnold, a top notch hurdler, Walter Minehart, Dick Simonsen and Erhardt Moose- man, weight men. Traveling to Hinsdale for a dual event, Elgin's cindermen won the maior meet, 67W to 45W. Coach Alexander's band were third best in the triangular track meet at West Aurora. Elgin's var- sity placed second in the first annual quadrangular re- lays. Taking a clean sweep in the weight events and firsts in the high hurdles, 220 yard dash, high jump and pole vault and coupled with a flock of seconds and thirds the E.H.S., varsity trackmen defeated Joliet in a dual meet. Dick Simonsen flung the shot over 5'l feet, his best eftort so far. .
