EHS Varsity Wins Undisputecl Big 8 Crown Defeating West Aurora High 31-13 before 6000 fans, Elgin received its first clear conference foot- ball championship among maior teams for the first time since 1929. Scoring in every quarter of the game, the Maroons knocked West Aurora to its knees in the first three quarters and in the fourth added insurance to the already soaring score. Roger Ziegler and Evan Brown led the touchdown parade with two tallies each. Quarter- back Don Westphal made the fifth on a quarter- back sneak in the second quarter. Willard Schuldt connected with a conversion. On winning the con ference football championship, Coach Ebbert re- marked, There are many individual stars on the team, but they didn't overshadow the fact that contributing to the whole effort was of prime im- portance to them. Work hard, fight all the way, and play football together was their creed. Roger Ziegler led Elgin in conference league scoring with 42 points, End Willard Schuldt held second place with 38 conference points, Evan Brown in confer- ence play totaled 30 points.
