Swing music, against a backdrop of pennants, chrysonthemums, goal posts with yard markers and fieldhouse murals created on evening of enchantment for EHS students at the homecoming dance. H041 ...f ELG YU Non Wilson, secretary of the Student Council, was chosen to rule as queen of the homecom- ing dance. Thundering cheers from 3,500 spectators spurred Elgin's teams to victories. Varsity won 26 to l2. Frosh-Soph scored 6-0 on a 90 yard run by Don Mapes. if Bigger and more colorful than ever, twenty floats paraded through the downtown streets of Elgin before going to Maroon Field where they were judged at the half time ot the varsity game. F.F.A. won first place, Girls' Athletic Association, second, Future Teach- ers, third, Band, fourth, and Class of '52, fifth. A capacity crowd swayed and bumped to the music of Bill Carnegie's tenepiece band in the E.H.S. gymnasium, scene of the Fieldhouse Moods homecom- ing dance. The royal couple sat upon a throne and ruled over the merrymakers.

Members of the winning combination include, left to right, first row: Jerry Roller, Bob Palm, Jim Bolger, Chris Kobel, Evan Brown, Ken Field, Bruce Homfeldt, George Aurand, Fred Steffen, Bruce Pillinger. Second row: Alan Ferriss, Larry Rovelstad, Dick Voltz, Bruce Miller, Bob Zito, Bob Lagerstrom, Bob Malohn, Don Westphal, Roger Zieg- ler, Elwood Behrens, Captain George Elliot, Jack Lohbauer, Morris Gillespie, John McMahon, Dick Brant. EHS Varsity Wins Undisputecl Big 8 Crown Defeating West Aurora High 31-13 before 6000 fans, Elgin received its first clear conference foot- ball championship among maior teams for the first time since 1929. Scoring in every quarter of the game, the Maroons knocked West Aurora to its knees in the first three quarters and in the fourth added insurance to the already soaring score. Roger Ziegler and Evan Brown led the touchdown parade with two tallies each. Quarter- back Don Westphal made the fifth on a quarter- back sneak in the second quarter. Willard Schuldt connected with a conversion. On winning the con ference football championship, Coach Ebbert re- marked, There are many individual stars on the team, but they didn't overshadow the fact that contributing to the whole effort was of prime im- portance to them. Work hard, fight all the way, and play football together was their creed. Roger Ziegler led Elgin in conference league scoring with 42 points, End Willard Schuldt held second place with 38 conference points, Evan Brown in confer- ence play totaled 30 points.
