The advisers in our high school do much in this way by helping every student coming to them for aid. They play a large part in the building of character, for which the modern school is working. It is the advisers who help the students to choose the right subiectsg to acquire an interest in the many activities, and to make those adjustments which help the building process. In appreciation of the assistance and guidance which we have received from our friends and councilers, we dedicate this twenty-First edition of The Maroon to our Elgin High School Advisers. .,,t.t ,T .qt 5 1

The building of nations with adequate government, the building of wonderful physiques, and the building of character, with high ideals and experience in many phases of life, have long been the inner- most desires of all people, although accomplished by very few. In this twenty-first volume of The Maroon, the Class of 1931 is attempting to show the part that Elgin High School plays in building our democracy so that it may be foremost in attaining success and high standards of living. This theme of building is carried throughout the book with different types of Elgin buildings to illustrate the various sections of the book. The very prominent tower of the Elgin National Watch Factory is used through the entire book as the featured design on each page. Elgin is our home, and we are proud to be building future citizens of this city. I ,Q
