COMMERCIAL AND MATHEMATICS DEPARTMENTS The Commercial Department prepares students for employment upon leaving high school, trains them for advanced college courses, and gives basic training in typing for personal use. A total ol' 5 units of credits arc offered including typing, shorthand, bookkeeping, junior business training, and commercial arithmetic. Three teachers are instructing approximate- ly 150 students in the various courses. Three instructors strive to provide learning experiences which will be of most value to the 215 students in the regular mathematic courses. This department offers l unit in general math, 2 units in algebra, l unit in plane geometry, V2 unit in solid geometry, and Va unit in trigonometry. Our whole business life depends on the knowledge and application of mathematical and commercial principles. The power to think logically, quickly, and clearly, so essential to all professions, is developed by mathematics. I7

VGCATIQNAL FIELDS Training students for useful living is the major objective of the Vocational Depart- ments which include homcmaking, agriculture, mechanical drawing, and metal shop. Some of the purposes in teaching homemaking are to give girls training and opportuni- ty to develop skills. gain knowledge, and to accept responsibility in the different areas of the home and family life education. Two teachers direct approximately 65 students in a program including sewing, foods, nursing, teas, banquets, and displays. Three credits are available in agriculture which includes 25 boys. To familiarize the boys with agriculture and to establish them in the field are the general aims carried out by the instructor. Outstanding merits have been achieved in poultry and livestock judging. Two vocational teachers instruct students in mechanical drawing, sheet metal, auto mechanics, and welding. This department offers 1 year of mechanical drawing, 2 years in metal shop and has 48 students. I9
