SLNIOR YEAR September 1950 found a happy group consisting of twelve members, for we were now the sole owners of Room 6 Gosh! Ne were all alone, end it was so nice to have calm and quiet Louis Sander was a new member, and we were glad to welcome him as one of us We had Miss Mo berg as our advisor, and she worried along with the Pest of us throughout the year Well, thls was the year for us The year we waited so lont lor was finally here ve elected Louis Sander, President, George Fisher, Vice President Shirley Myers, Secretary and Doris Haas, Treasurer One of the ventures we undertook was the oint Junior and Senior play HShe'1l Be Comin' Round the Mountain ' After all the long nights of practice, it was finally our openin night when the cur taln was brought down, all our hard work and effort was nothing, for the applause from the audience told us it was a huge succes The second rlght of the play we had the drawing for the beautiful hooked rug that Mrs Fritz Williams contrlbmted to our cause We were sorry t lose Louis Sander, and Peorpe Fisher took over the Presidential seat Our never to be forgotten Senior trip was one of the highlights hearts forever May we say thanks to our parents, friends and teach ers who dug down in their pockets to pull up fifty cents for a ticket said, nSure I'll help the Seniors get to Washington No matter how la ge or small the donation was we appreciated it Now at last we are waiting for the bl gest event of all, our graduation Then we can put our education to use, for as our class mo to goes, E sdom is richer than rubies OUR SENIOR NASHIWGTON TRIP April 27, l95l found ten anxious Seniors waiting at Port Jervis station to take off on their long awaited Senior Trip to Nashington, Naturally, the trip started off with a bang Butch was so anx ious to leave he almost ran his car into another one Ne were all supposed to be at the station at 7 45 and the stu dents were, but where oh, where was Liss Moberg? Jell, it seems that she overslept Oh! not She called a taxi to take her from the Hotel Minisink to the station, but he never showed up until 8 OO The train was to leave at 8 O5 At 8 O0 we discovered Miss Moberg running through the station, shouting await for me N We got on the train, and settled down Everyone about what they were going to do After a few hours we were lost for words, so some of us decided to walk to see what we could see. Because of the jolting and happy when we sat in our seats. was busy talking of this it seems through the cars pushing, we were Y 3 0 O : T 41 ul . J 5 , 'j ' , 7' 4 - 3 A 3 . 9 - Og N 'W , ,U . SOPHOMORE YEAR Another year found the ex Frosh gathered together again, but we had lost four of our class members Jay O'Br1en, Frances Conklin and Marion Southworth were gone from our midst We were glad to see Will iam Godoy come back, but all too soon he had to leave us again This year our class was guided by Miss Gale, and we chose for our Class President, Dorothy Mills, Vice President, George Fisher, Secre tary, Dorothy Quick, and Treasurer, Doris Haas It was this year that we presented our second dance nThe Sophomore Fling N How many remem ber the Garther Adfrey skit we put on during the intermission? We had some fine talent there, and the folks out in the audience really en joyed it By this year we were well in the swing of things, and life was progressing very happily for the 'Saucy Sophs ' JUNIOR YEAR Our Junior year held a lot in store for us, and we were very hap py and excited when we congregated in Room 8 This year we were glad to welcome Miss Moberg, a new teacher at E C S , as our new class advisor Dorothy Quick, Mickey McCann, and Eugene Wilson left us, and our class started to decrease Ne elected George Fisher as our Class President, Shirley Myers, Secretary Alberta Brodmerkel, Vice President, and Doris Haas, Treas urer One of the biggest thrills of being a Junior is to know that we get our class rings We waited for the ring salesman to come and fi nally when November came around so did he, loaded with boxes of rings for us to choose from We finally decided on the style of rings we wanted, and after much confusion we changed the regular emblem of the After we ordered our rings, we waited for them to come and on St Valent1ne's Day they arrived Were we ever happy! Everybody 1 school knew they were here, because we showed them off to everyone We sat in our classes and polished and polished them They were worth a million dollars to us, and they still fre Our class dance nThe Fool's Balln proved to be another success We presented another skit, and it again was enjoyed by all We also presented a movie this year 'The Kid from Cleveland From this we raised some money for our Senior trip to Washington, We, being an ambitious class also put on a card party We were very happy to see so many people turn out The prizes were generously donated by our store merchants from Barryville, Eldred, and Yulan Finally our long awaited Junior Prom came into view We worked all day decorating as we had always bragged about how nice our prom would be, and sure enough it turned out to be one of the nicest proms ever given We thought the gym looked wonderful Shirley Paulus, the ex Prom Queen crowned Dorothy Brodmerkel as the new Prom Queen, and Henry Dieckhoff as the new king We took a picture of the new king and queen, and the Junior and Senior girls acted as attendants Everyone had a wonderful time 3 ' ' ' E. Ve were glad when we arr'ved at Baltimore so that we could StTSUjl our legs Ne waited outside the station for o1r bus which was to take us o Annapolis and then on to Jashington Our bus was the la t one to show up and we were get ing worr'ed for we thought they might have forgotten us Steve, our bus driver, made a hit w tk us right away, and he helped make our trip interesting and enjoyable Our flrst stop was Annapolls, and the girls did pretty well for themselves The midshipmen even posed for us It is a beautiful place as well as very interesting May we say while we were there it was the only time the sun shone We got hack on the bus and started on to Nashington We arrived at the hotel a nour and a half later to start on our adventure v washed up and went down to the dining room for dinner We all felt a great deal better after eating After dinner we went out on tour and we visited first the Lincoln Memorial which greatly impres es us Secondly, we visited the Con gre sional Llbrary and viewed some famous documents such as our Dec laration of Independence and the Bill of Rlghts which make our coun try the grand place it is After this tour we went back to the hotel to go to sleep Some of us went out to buy postcards to send to the folks back home We even had our midnight snacks, and so back to the hotel to sleep Sleep? Well, who wanted to sleep, anyway We just got in bed Oh well' another day ahead of us, and we'll catch up on our sleep tonight The second day we v1s'ted the Bureau of Printlng and Engraving, and saw how money, postage and government documents are printed and engraved Ve visited here on the wrong day as they told us they weren't giving away samples today After this we pas ed such places as the Dept of Co.merce, Dept of Justice and the kational Archives buildings of the Capitol Ne al so had a group picture taken or our class with the Capitol in the background Also in the morning we visited the House of Represents tives and Senate We wanted to set in on a session, but we were there a little too early After this we visisted the Supreme 'ourt Back to the hotel to wash up, eat a hurried lunch, and get back into the bus to start out on our afternoon tour We toured the resi dential section of Washington and passed the homes of the late Pres idents Wilson and Taft, Admiral Dewey, and other famous mer and the foreign embasseis After thls we stopped at the zoo to see mammoth exhiblt of wild animals and birds From here we started to Arlington Cemetery and en route we saw Georgetown Un versity and the Pentagon Building We sav the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and sorry to say we weren't able to see the very impres 1ve changing of the guard Later in the afternoon we went to Nt Vernon to see the home and tomb of Washington, slave quarters, kitchen and formal flower garden Thls vas our last stop, so back to the hotel to wash and dress as tonight we were attend ng the Casino Royal, which is a night club in Washington At the night club some of us had Chine e food and some American A floor show was also presented which we all enjoyed Thursday morning found us in the same predicament. By this time our theme song was nOh! How I Hate To Get Up In The Morning.n We started off the morning by visiting the Smithsonian Institute where we saw many interesting collections. One thing that interested the girls very much were the gowns worn by each Presidents wife at his inauguration. After we left the Institute, our next stop was the Washington Monument.
