Sports Review Baseball: 1956 The boys of Eldon High had a better than average Fall baseball season by winning 7 of 10 games. We lost 2 games to Cincinnati and 1 game to Eddyville, runner-up to the State champions. Score Opponents We They Eddyville 0 4 Keosauqua 4 Eddyville 4 Agency . .13 i Cincinnati 3 Eldon was successful in winning the Sectional Tournament in the Fall of 1956 to which we played host. Beating Farson first by a 11 to 0 score, in a game that only went five innings. Batavia was next in line, going down 10 to 3. Libertyville fell to the second team 12 to 0. The game was called at the end of the second inning. The next stop in tournament play was the District played at Keosauqua. Our first opponent was Douds which we beat by a score of 6 to 0. We had a tough time getting started, but after the fifth inning, we started to hit the ball, and got most of our runs then. After losing to Cincinnati during the regular season we met them again in the finals of the District. It was a tight ball game down to the last out. With runners on second and third and one out, the Cincy shortstop made a leaping catch of a rising line drive off the bat of Wilson Wilburn, doubling the man off second base for the double play. That ended our baseball play for the Fall. 30
