One citizen still in the community after twenty years is the former Patty Hemm, who is now a great musician who has her own radio hour and gives concert tours all over the great United States and many of the foreign countries. We always knew that Patty would be a great success. From the Class of 51 there has come one of the most interesting secretarial workers of all times. Of course, in her commercial courses she was pretty good. Who else but Audrey Boyd! She is now an instructor in a business institute here in Eldon. With so many interesting and well-educated people from the '51 Class, there al- so came a very prominent person, Barbara Witte, who is now a famous New York model for the famous beauty soaps and make-up ads. The latest known journalist in the Eldon Messenger is the former Miss Bertha Saner who received so much of her training and experience while writing for the class as reporter two years. Betty Cole, also of our Class of 51, has become known in the community of Eldon as Welfare worker, and who is a member of the Humane Society. Other prosperous figures have advanced since graduating from E.H.S. John Sickels was fortunate to get into a used car lot where his specialty is the Willy’s Zephyr. Of course he has had experience in this line of cars for some years. For Miss Verla Jean Sedore, life has changed very little. She is married, which was one of her big ambitions, and has two growing children. She keeps her musical voice in tune by singing at her household chores. As we look down Runaway Boulevard, which used to be Main Street, we see one of the biggest hot rod super garages of all times. As we step in to visit the place, we see Don Benson, a former classmate, as a mechanic and driver of a beautiful Hot Rod. The sponsor we were told is Mr. W. R. Burns, our former Senior Class Sponsor. Looking into the future is quite a bit of fun, but, believe me, everyone from the class of 51 will surely be successful in anything he does. Class Song Marching along together, Sharing every smile and tear! Marching along together. Whistling till the skies are clear-- Swinging along the highway Over the road that s wide; Without a bugle without a drum. We mean to chase the Jinx. Oh rum-ti-did-dle-dee! Here we come; We re happy Hinkey Dinks, Marching along together. Life is wonderful, side by side! 28

Class Prophecy Time-1971 My Gosh! What a change has come over this big city of Eldon. Well why shouldn’t it become a thriving business and industrial city when the Class of 1951 were given a voice in affairs. Of course there are certain members of the Class of ‘51 who are now very popular people. For instance, the mayor is the former Lila Fane, who always did have a wonderful way of presiding over class meetings while in school. If some- one should ask the reason for a woman mayor in a large city like Eldon, it is that when the Class of ‘51 graduated there were sixteen girls and five boys. So the girls just decided to spread their dominating influence. In looking over the city, we find that it is one of the very important educational centers in the state. This is due to the fact that we had one of the most well-ed- ucated persons in the Class of '51. The present superintendent of the school is now Mr. Lawrence Auld, better known to his friends by the name of Professor . He is the man who built Eldon into the fine educational center it is today. To see the most beautiful and most modern group of grocery stores in Eldon and the rest of the state you would of course know that someone very successful should be the owner. Glenn Hughes, of course. Grocery stores have been in his line of work for years. His motto is: U Save on Our Yummie Yummie Goodies . Orlo Thomas has been appointed to help with the control of small vehicle ac- cidents in the city of Eldon, since he had ridden his bicycles to and from school for many a year. He is very successful in his position as the Director of Public Safety. On the side, as a hobby, Orlo is an important dog breeder of this state. The night spots in Eldon are very popular, especially with the former Shirlaw twins as entertainers on special nights. They both do have private lives and hob- bies. Both are married; Kaye designs new hair styles, while Maye is an instruc- tor of athletics in an all-women's organization named The Keep-Young-With Athletics Club . In the home-life group who have set up housekeeping as a full-time job there is the former Betty Northup, who changed her name to McClure about three months before graduation, Shirley Liles, who was fortunate enough to get a diamond while in school, and Margaurette Wilburn, who was married during the complete Senior year in school. She now has two boys and a girl. Betty has a boy and a girl, and Shirley has four children, two boys and two girls. Donna Curtis surely didn’t surprise us when she joined the WAC's and was married after two years of army life. Now she is at home with three children, ages: ten, twelve, and fourteen. To get the news on three or four of our classmates was difficult, as they were living in Illinois, Missouri, and even more distant places. Norma Osing left short- ly after graduation to go to Chicago, and there she stayed. Evelyn Thomas is somewhere in Missouri living the kind of leisure life she always wanted. She can afford to be leisurely about her doings; she married one of the richest men in the whole Middle West. With Lois Fite being the new singing star of the season, she is making quite a hit with a new recording of “Mv Million Loves. 27

Class History On September 4. 1939, school had begun for the Class of 51. Those answering Here to Lois Kirkwood were as follows: Donald Bihain, Lawrence Brown, Harold Cobb, Robert Chichester, Tommy Hawker, Floyd McIntosh, Jimmy Strunk, Eugene Hines, Beverly Bigger, Edith Bihain, Goldie Calhoon, Lila Fane, Patty Hemm, Ardith Pyle, Ruth Snook, Karilyn Shirlaw, Marilyn Shirlaw, Marilyn Van Patten, Barbara Witte, and Ethel Davis. In our second year, as many came and went, we added Betty Cloke and Marilyn Thummel. Our teacher was Mrs. Mable Stilfield. As the bell rang on September 1, 1941, those newcomers, under the supervision of Mrs. Franees Reed Vass, who filled in to take their place among the rest of the class were Charles Hughes, John Sickels, Lundy Weeks, Ferald Roberts, Betty Cole, Martha Thomas, Ruth Clark, and Delbert Davis. This was the year that the Lincoln School, known as Hillbillies, and the Eldon High School, known as Flat- Heads, were united into one class. During our fourth year, we added two more to our class, Betty Northup and Paul Dabler. We were taking our lessons from Betty Miller Barthalow. The fifth found most of us mistakenly thinking we knew more than the teacher, who was Mrs. Mable Stilfield. We entered school to find one new face, that belong- ing to Ronald Fuqua. In the year of '44, we were known as the Junior High and had a new thrill of passing from class to class as the high school did. Four new faces greeted us this year; Audrey Boyd, Jimmy Hayes, Orlo Thomas, and Donald Benson. Under the supervision of Mrs. Rasberry, Mrs. Hughes, Miss Sharp, Mrs. Stilfield, and Mr. Henery we acquired four new members to our class; Shirley Henry, Donna Curtis, Sharon Stevenson, and Donald Ludwig. Although some of us had our doubts, we came through with flying colors and participated in the eighth grade class exercises. We felt very happy to be graduat- ing because we would soon be in high school. Some of us were very grateful to Miss Herr for signing our diplomas. Those looking forward to being Freshmen were: Audrey Boyd, Donna Curtis, Lila Fane, Patty Hemm, Marilyn Shirlaw, Karilyn Shirlaw, Martha Thomas, Betty Northup, Shirley Henry, Kathleen Bonnett, Barbara Witte, Betty Cole, Donald Benson, Glenn Highes, Donald Ludwig, John Sickels, Orlo Thomas, and Donald Walker. The fall of ’47 found us Freshmen and well on our way to the top of the ladder. We didn t know what work was until Mrs. Place announced period one. As we were intelligent students, it took us no time to acquire the knowledge of the courses we were to follow throughout the year. There were exactly twenty-eight of us. Margaurette Aechliman, Beverly Bigger, Ferris Bull, Clifford Carter, Lois Fite, Shirley Liles, Norma Osing, Freda Pilcher, Bertha Saner, Verla Sedore, and Evelyn Thomas were the new Freshmen. Beverly Bigger later moved to California, and Kathleen Bonnett took up the duties of a housewife. Our Freshman officers were: President-Karilyn Shirlaw, Vice-President-Marilyn Shirlaw, Secretary- Shirley Liles, and Treasurer-Martha Thomas. Mrs. Place was our sponsor. Among some of the happiest memories of this year were a hayride and a wiener roast. 29
