CLASS HISTORY OF. 51 On September 2, 1947, the doors of E. J. H. S. opened to a group that later became the Class of '5 l . There were many wanderers in the hall until we got to know the rooms and classes. Our first year courses consisted of Civics, Gen- eral Mathematics, English I, and Science. The instructors were Mr. Brown, Mr. Curry, Mrs. Ru- pert, Mrs. Wood, and Mr. Kunkle, supervising principal. This year the class consisted of Vivian Smith, Della Peterman, Louise Rupert, Francis Win- gard, Doris Westlake, Mabel Frailey, Patricia Emert, Elmira Emert, Janice Heilman, Luella Ankeny, Eleanor Rearick, Velma Cribbs, Ma jorie Shaffer, Donald Freehling, Ronald Rearick, Floyd Sheasley, Donald Farster, Gerald Howard, Blair Bleakney, Delone Wingard, Wayne. In October came a fearful event-initiation- after which there was a party held to welcome us into the line of classes. It wasn't long until vacation rolled past and we came back to the same old building, but as a new class, Sophomores . This year we added to our class Bernard Boy- er, Bernice Boyer, Robert Rearick, Peggy Silvis, Louise Crownover, Donna Smeltzer, Floyd Smail, and Jim Henderson. During the year we lost Guy Reefer, Wayne Frailey, and Robert Rearick. Guiding the class were President, Ronald Rear- ick, Vice President, Guy Reefer, Secretary, Jan- ice Heilmang Treasurer, James Flickinger. The instructors were Miss Emigh, Mrs. Denning, Mrs. Spicher, Mrs. Rupert, Miss Colonna, Mr. Herceg, Mr. Kane, and Mr. Brown. This year Gerald Howard was received on the Varsity Basketball Squad. Soon it was May. That meant our vacation would start, and we were through for another year. Another vacation soon rolled by. On August 29, 1949 we entered E. J. H. S. for our third year. During the preceding year and the summer we lost Guy Reefer, Wayne Frailey, and Dwight Wagner. This term the subjects and teachers were U. S. For the activities the class had a square dance, Junior Play, and the one that took most of the treasury was the Junior-Senior Prom. When the year ended, we had 563.18 in the treasury. The officers of our class were as follows: Presi- dent, Gerald Howardg Vice President, Ronald Rearick, Secretary, Janice Heilman, Treasurer, Luella Ankeny. On September 5, 1950 the last vacation of our school years in E. J . H. S. was linally over. As we look back on our school days we see the work and effort that has sent another group out into the world. Last year we lost Doris Westlake and Francis Wingard. We also lost Marjorie Shaffer and Elmira Emert because of marriage. The officers were President, Gerald Howard, Vice President, Delone Wingardg Secretary, Jan- ice Heilmang Treasurer, Vivian Smith. Our class also had six members on the basket- ball team, Gerald Howard, Blair Bleakney, Ron- ald Rearick, Donald Freehling, Jim Henderson, and Floyd Sheasley. Members of the cheering squad were Eleanor Rearick, Peggy Silvis, and Louise Crownover. On November 10, we sponsored a round, square, and polka dance. The Night Hawks played and called for the dance. On November 17, our class presented the Senior Play, entitled Excuse Me, Please . It was directed by Miss Uhrey and Miss Porter., The play was a farce comedy in three acts consisting of sixteen characters. For a motto we chose, So much to do, so little done.
