MR. JOHN C. HUMMEL. head of Elder's English department, teaches senior English. Mr. Hummel, a '49 Elder grad, attended Notre Dame receiving an A.B. in Journalism and Psychology. He then went on to Law School for two years. Mr. Hummel began teaching at Elder in 1968. He enjoys fishing, fencing, water skiing, and making up war stories in his spare timeh MR. HEBAUF poses for a Schick razor blade ad . MR. MiCHAEL HEBAUF, a '65 grad of Elder is in his fifth year at Elder. He attended U.C. and received his B.S. in economics. Mr. Hebauf teaches sophomore English. and is interested in all sports, especially hunting, fishing, and motocross riding. MR. HUMMEL: I remember back in the big war . . . at Fort Dix peeling potatoes. MR. JERRY FEDERLE graduated from St. Gregory Seminary in 1964, and continued his education at Xavier. graduating in 1968. Mr. Federle has been at Elder since 1968, teaching sophomore and junior English, and coaching both baseball and football on the reserve level. MR. FEDERLE smiles for the wrong camera.

MR. THOMAS J. KEL- LER, owning a B.A. and a M.A. in English, is in his fourth year of teaching jun- io: and senior English. A '61 grad of Elder, MI. Kel- ler enjoys reading and music. MR. KELLER: Silly, Huck never said any- thing like that! MR. MENKHAUS: That's a MISTER Sappy to you, son. MR. EDWARD MENKH HAUS holds a B.S. in Eng- lish and a M.Ed. Besides being the moderator of the Purple Quill and jour- nalism teacher, MI. Men- kaus teaches English and Geometry. Enjoying car- pentry, he is also an avid sports buff . ll! MR. KENNETH A. LAAKE, a '65 grad of Purcell, has taught all levels of English since joining the faculty in 1969 . Owning a B. A. in English, he enjoys all sports. espe- cially basketball. softball, golf , and ten- nis. MI. Laake coaches reserve and varsity tennis. E MR. LAAKE: The last kid that said that was sitting in the desk behind me .

FR. GARY WITSKEN. holder of a B.A. in Philosophy from the Athenaeum of Ohio, returned to Elder as a Spanish teacher. A '60 Elder grad, he doubles as the chaplain of the baseball team. MR. RICHARD GROSSER teaches Span- ish I and is head of the Foreign Language department. He attended St. Xavier in 1965 and went to Thomas More where he received an A .B . in Spanish. He is pres- ently working toward a M.Ed. in Admin- istration at U .C. In his leisure time, he FR. WITSKEN: You think I'm kidding, enjoys sports cars. don't you? Language Department Which picture is Grosser? FR. TIMOTHY KALLAHER, a gradu- ate of McNicholas in 1964, teaches Latin I and II. He holds an A.B. in Philosophy, 3 M.A. in Theology. Masters' of Divinity from the Athe- naeum of Ohio, as well as a M.A. in Classics from X . U. FR. KALLAHER gets an inspiration.
