JWSmggtaerez Imamlfmeatu, Supervising the smooth functioning of an institution made up of nearly 1350 students and 51 faculty members is a tremendous responsibility. Father J. Paul Gruber, Elderas new principal, has shown himself capable, pro- gressive, efficient, and understanding. As an Elder alum- nus and teacher of long standing. Father Cruber can be said to have devoted the greater portion of his life to the school. The Most Reverend Archbishop recognized the increased needs of our school brought on by the increased enroll- ment. With these factors in mind, he appointed two vice principalsea milestone in the history of the school. Both Father Bange and Father Schaefer have thrown them- selves into their new jobs with vigor and enthusiasm. Much of the successful operation of a school depends upon the efficiency of the secretarial department. At Elder we are proud of the competent work of'these ladies. Our secretaries take care of dispensing tardy slips and penalty paper, accepting tuition payments, and keeping the school records Formerly they were also in charge of writing report cards, but this year the electronic brain UNIVAC has relieved them Of this chore. The UNIVAC system is now three years old, but this is its first year of operation at Elder. The speed and efficiency of this process can be shown by the fact that on the average it would take a secretary fifteen minutes to record a student7s grades, average them, and determine his class ranking.
