Participation in the Athletic Mr. Robert Hoernschmeyer eClass 1943 is a backfield star with the Detroit Lions National Professional Team. Sports of all kind hold a very im- portant place in the program at any school. Not only do they help develoP strong bodies, but also they aid very much in develoPing strong characters. The sports program at Elder has not only been successful over the years because of fine teams which have been produced, but especially because of the distinguished gentlemen Who have manned those teams. Many of our athletes have gOne forth from Elder to continue exercising their special skills in national competition. These men have carried the name of Elder on to fields of sports of many of the finest universities in the country as Well as professional organizations. Sports have been for many of these graduates a means of livelihood, but especially they have been a means of bringing the principles of good Sports- manship, integrity and honor to those of the younger generation.
