The work ot the science teacher in high school is very important to those students who intend to continue their scientific studies in college. It is in high school that the foundation is laid and the basic principles are learned. Here at Elder. despite the lack of equipment, our science teachers have done a commendable joh instilling in the stu- dents a thorough knowledge of the tunctamentats 0f the sciences.

The department of mathematics is an important factor in the educa- tion of the students of Elder. Its tour-year course aims to teach the student the science of pure mathematics. This branch is restrictect to the abstract science which by tile deductive system examines the conclusions neces sarily involved in the idea of numerical and spatial relations. This course, which includes algebra, geometry and trigonometry, gives to the student the untierlying principles in the engineering anct scientific Fields. The Commercial Department serves those students who have aspira- tions in the Field of business. It offers them training in a variety of subjects including Commercial Law, Bookkeeping, General Business Training, Business Arithmetic, Satesmanship and Typewriting.
