THOMAS JEFFERSON [ieté) NEW GENERATION A NEW GENERATION OF FRIENDS AND TRENDS As the 1987- 1988 year opened, the student body bent a few of the rules attracting attention to their arrival. But once everyone had gotten into the school spirit, the learning atmosphere became contagious. Even though students devoted most of their time to books, friends willingly shared a few fleeting moments with one another. Students and faculty eagerly anticipated and welcomed school events, guests, and special times spent together. Throughout the year, the New Generation delighted in their friends and trends of their 1987-1988 school year. On Friday, October 9, 1987, the dream that all girls strive for came true for lovely Miss Beth Henderson, as she was crowned 1987 Homecoming Queen. Beth, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Waylon Henderson, was escorted by Mr. Wynn Grimes. She was crowned by senior class president, Mr. Joseph McCollough, and Andrea Carnley, Little Miss Elba. Mr. Chris Wilson presented flowers to the new Queen. Attending Beth were Misses Xandra Smith, escorted by Richard Coon; Melissa Johnson, escorted by Michael Moseley; Mona Kelley, escorted by Dax Leandro; Kristi Oggs, escorted by Jay Grider; and Kim McBride, escorted by Willie Tillis. T oh ; es = ‘se � acs a. ey at Sees se ta yest on The week of Homecoming ’87 was filled with fun and excitement for the students and faculty. The cheerleaders kept the spirit alive by sponsoring “dress-up” days during the week. Following the Coronation at two o’clock on Friday afternoon, parade entries wound through downtown Elba. The Queen’s float, constructed by the seniors, was the highlight of the parade while the sophomores claimed first place in senior high float competition. The Elba Tigers soundly defeated the Louisville Red Devils 48-6 on the grid-iron, and the dance following the game climaxed a week of everlasting memories. HOMECOMING ’87! An air of highly- spirited excitement pervaded Miller Memorial Stadium as the mighty Tiger power rushed the field. The Tigers displayed a fighting drive as they walloped the Red Devils of Louisville to an astounding score of 48-6. The home team rolled up 361 yards in the explosive victory. The main goal of the Student Council is to achieve a well-orga- nized student government to al- low students to express their opin- ions on certain issues. New band director Gary Bradley broke the Old Elba style and painted the Marching Tigers a whole new face. Their abstract art performed on the field stunned audiences and wooed judges. The pride and dedica- tion once again gained superior rat- ings for the Marching Tigers. They performed at the Little Big Horn Marching Contest in Opp; the La- fayette Marching Classic in Fayett- ville, Georgia; and the Old South Marching Band Festival in Milton, Florida. Alisa is the daughter of Eu- gene and Shirley Parrish. She is sev- enteen years old and attends the Elba United Methodist church. Alisa is also a member of Girl Scout Troop 300 and Jr. Music Club.
