We had finally attained that coveted title ... SENIORS! As we reflected upon the past eleven years, we remembered many facets of our academic experiences ... the mistakes from which we learned, the goals which we had achieved, the lasting friendships which we had made, and the knowledge we had gained. Although we sometimes experienced failure, the desire for success prevailed as did our true banner PRIDE in our school and our class. Our expectations were high and our goals were challenging. SEVENTH GRADE BAND gegdg lglg igi Pou HE er i aly : 4 (Ng It is truly a miracle of sociology that over 100 students from widely differing backgrounds can almost live together; learning and at the same time, having a ball. Despite the occasional disagreements that arise, the Marching Tigers are bond- ed by a common love — the love of music, marching, and enjoying themselves. The senior band members will indeed miss being a part of such a closely knit organization. The band instills one with a strong sense of pride, and this pride can never leave one’s heart. Although they can no longer march as Marching Tigers, in their hearts they will always be MARCH- ING TIGERS!! ELBA 7 , - — =! +; f lait lat fet! Henderson just couldn’t find the han- dle. The Red Tigers of Luverne visited Tiger Stadium the following week to stun Elba in a heartbreaking upset 10-3. The loss gave the Tigers a 2-1 record and a disappointing night. The Tigers took a 2-1 record to an all time conference rival, the Opp Bobcats. Brunson lowered the boom to Trojan runner. Elba was back home in the rain, mud, and fog to take on the Troy Trojans, the defending 3A State Champions. The Tigers took the kick off and marched to the T roy 25 only to be stopped by the Trojans as Hooks was asked to come in and kick a 35 yard field-goal which put Elba up 3. The Trojans managed to score late in the first quarter. Another field-goal by Hooks put the Tigers within one at the half, 7-6. The only score in the second half came by a Trojan fumble which put the Tigers on the Troy 11. Because of the superb blocking by the line and excellent running by the backs, the Tigers scored. A new pride builder emerged from the rain and mud as during the game the fans, and players would “take it around” as the Tigers held on to win 14-7. A mathematical trip to the state playoffs started forming with the win over Troy as the Tigers jour- neyed to the very southeastern tip of Alabama to take on the struggling Ashford Yellowjackets. Elba seemed to run and pass at will but so did the stingy Yellowjackets. Tiger pride shined through as the Ti- gers stung the jackets 21-6. Whitehurst stung Yellowjacket quarterback. The Tigers, now 5-3, took a trip to Conecuh County for a battle against the Aggies of Evergreen. Both teams had problems during the first half but in a last minute shot the Tigers came out scrapin’ and tacked on two TD’s to win 21-0. The Tigers took yet another trip, for the final game of the season, to the home of the powerful bulldogs of Andalusia. The Tigers entered the game as a two-touchdown underdog. An Elba win could possibly put the Tigers in the state playoffs for the second time in Elba’s history. At the end of regulation time the Tigers and the Bulldogs were tied 7-7. After three overtimes the Tigers fell to the Bulldogs 20-17. Fans, band members, cheerleaders, and players stood in disbelief as the final play was played. However, everyone knew the tigers of ’81 had finished on a very successful note. The Tigers scored first in the first of three overtimes. What’s better than a Tiger on the loose? A Bulldog in a cage.
