The Learning Process—a timeless fundamental. a“ é Oe el el Bier gi The designated purpose of the classroom is not always the most frequently used. Each classroom is different and reflective of its inhabitant teach- ers and students. The student experiences his opinions, his emotions, his abil- ity to learn, and his academic standing in respect to fellow stu- dents. The classroom is a de- terminate factor in the over-all success of the Learning Process. If a child is hurt, he cries. If a dog is frightened, he barks. These are examples of emotion, the instinctive trait of displaying whatever one feels at the moment. Emotion is a lifelong essential, a never-lost ability, a characteristic of personality that adds interest and in- dividuality to the total human being. TLL. . Homecoming Queen Linda Coon Jana Brown Debra Hammonds Linda Coon Jo Ruth Kendrick Homecoming ’74 ... A Day to Remember Nothing can be compared to the thrills and excite- ment of homecoming. From the beginning of every school year, students anxiously await the fun and fes- tivities of the approaching homecoming day. Friday, November 1, 1974, began with the impressive coronation of the Homecoming Queen, Miss Linda Coon, and her court, consisting of Miss Debra Ham- monds, Miss Jo Ruth Kendrick, and Miss Jana Brown. That afternoon our biggest and best parade yet, com- posed or more than 80 entries, made its way through the town. The climax of the day came with the game between the Elba Tigers and the Andalusia Bulldogs, followed by the Annual Homecoming Dance at the Recreation Center. The students of Elba High School went home with pleasant thoughts of another great day to remember for years to come. The Elba Chapter of Future Homemakers of Amer- ica is the largest club at Elba High School. These young ladies have varied interests and a wide range of goals, but they share a common desire to be per- fect homemaker—not just a housewife. To be a homemaker is to provide love and under- standing as well as hard work and sacrifice to the family. Under the supervision of Mrs. Mary Young and Mrs. Sylvia Terrell, the Elba Chapter has undertaken many projects to help build a better organization and a better community. ... JROTC In its fourth consecutive year, the Junior Reserve Officer’s Training Corps at Elba High School is rising to fill so- ciety’s demand for more capable leaders. By utilizing the atmosphere of a military-oriented environment, cadets receive unsurpassed leadership experience while serving in various leadership positions. The primary objective of JROTC is not to prepare young citizens for military service, but to afford students the opportunity to make them- selves better individuals. The JROTC curriculum combines both classroom instruction and practical application in order to make the course more meaningful to the cadets. Although the Corps is the best prerequisite for future military service, total emphasis is placed on leadership development and citizenship. By assuming the small tasks offered in JROTC, cadets receive the best possible preparation for the difficult tasks they must face in the future. It’s not some- thing | can reach out and grab hold of physically; it’s something | reach out and grab hold of with my heart and mind. School spirit is not just yell- ing at pep rallies or football games; it’s not just wanting my team to win or my band to perform the best of all other bands. School spirit is having a deep and true concern for my school, what it stands for, and the many others who go there or are connected to it in some way. School spirit should show in the faces of the students, the rooms of the school and all around the campus. | can tell there is a lack of school spirit when | see littered campus grounds, topsy turned class- rooms, and other students making fun of those who are trying to show care and concern for their school, what it stands for, and their fellow students. There are many things that upset and irritate me, but none do this so bad as seeing someone hurt the spirit of my school. Once school spirit is damaged, it leaves a scar. The ini- tial wound may heal very quickly but the scar will still show for a long time to come. | can’t really think of a way to make the school spirit perfect, but | have many views and ideas on how to improve it. We need to try some way to reach out to the fellow students of ours and show them what school spirit means to us. If we were to show them, they would respect it and uphold it longer and better then if we were to just talk about it. | know this is true because actions speak louder than words. Some one will watch me do something before they will listen to me tell about doing. In order to have a school spirit, all people, not just a few must participate. For if there is ever the smallest minority, the cause will be lost. This small few could take away from the meaning of the whole idea, thus killing its effect. | want Elba High School to be the best school around and in order to do this we must go out and create within ourselves and our school the best school spirit around. —Stan Lewis Varsity Cheerleaders Left to right: Lisa Sharpless, Bobbie Manord, Jana Brown—Captain, Becky Bowers, Jo Ruth Kendrick—Co-Captain Defense .. the name of the game. Colors Brown and Copper Flower Yellow Rose Motto The horizon is not the boundary of the world. At mid-term our minds had already been packed with memories. It was our Senior year, the year we had thought would never come. It all started with registration. Everyone found out that Democracy was still required, but that was O.K., we wanted to graduate. Then came the football games. We didn’t win them all, but we tried, and we were always proud of our Senior players. Half-time show after half-time show, practice after practice—this all came to an end, too. The last football game found many Seniors with tears in their eyes. We had gone places together and shared the joy of winning and the agony of defeat. Indeed, we have found a love for each other we never knew existed. It certainly can’t be said we have sat around crying all the time! The dates, and the parties, and all the times have been filled with laughter and happiness. When we do leave Elba High School, we know the teachers will breathe easier, for we'll be one more Senior Class graduated. We, the Seniors, will be happy to begin the next part of our lives, but our memo- ries of Elba High School will last forever. = Debbie Henderson, “Miss Susie Homemaker,” received the Betty Crocker Future Family Leaders of America Award. We were Juniors now for real, not Sophomores anymore. Well, we had to wait quite a while for those precious rings, but when they finally arrived, we were filled with happiness and a feeling of pride. It can be said that our class was one of beauty and friendliness. We were honored to have two lovely girls representing us in the Homecoming Court. Two of our other class beauties were run- ners-up in the Miss Elbala Pageant. And best of all the winner was a wonderful Junior. Miss Con- geniality for the pageant was awarded to a Ju- nior. Yes, all were Juniors and all were wonderful. We played an important role in the life of the band this year. After all, where would the Color- guard be without the Juniors to give that certain flash? Many of the star football, basketball, and base- ball players have been Juniors and all were great. We accomplished a lot this year and it will not soon be forgotten. Many lasting friendships were established this year and the memories of the fun we had will be cherished forever. So, long live the Juniors of ’75.
