Wise, 28s ccs Business Manager Dedication The dedicated leadership of Lamar Foley at his Alma Mater has been especially effective in making Elba High School a true high school, by enlarging its endeavors through instruction, a self-study, and extension of facilities. His boundless energy enables him to encompass a tremendously busy schedule day by day; vet, he is always ready with a warm smile and friendly manner to listen to our point of view. He typifies the spirit of student-faculty cooperation of which we at Elba High are very proud. He displays an understanding and appreciation of the needs and problems of students and faculty alike. Mr. Foley has been sensitive to all components of our school; in turn many have responded with strength,demonstrating their dedica- tion to our school. Thus, his interest, concern, and untiring effort have resulted in the attainment of a goal which he has held before us a qualified faculty, quality instruction, and an enlightened stu- dent body as Elba High School this year became accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. We have come to know our principal as a friend, to respect him as an educator, and to admire him as a real person. It can move a crowd; move a football team. It is re- ally nothing more than pride, a pride that can’t be released unless the cause is worthy. But sometimes the cause fails, and this moving spirit is replaced by a sorrowful one. Spirit, though, isn’t confined only to school and pride. It reaches many phases of life. This such spirit and feeling make people human. Happiness creates the Spirit which makes our school unique. The excitement of Homecoming, the laughter of Twirp Week, or just the joy of hearing a humorous joke raises a smile and com- pels an individual to feel that “‘it’s great to be alive.” . to the end. The power that spreads through the Elba-sprinkl- ed crowd with every goal or basket for the Tigers is the mystical power, spirit, that makes or breaks a school. It has made ours. The Elba squad opened its 1967 season, the best since 1955, by defeating Brantley in Tiger Stadi- um. The next week the Tigers were defeated by a very strong Luverne team. Quite an upset on the gridiron occurred as a stunned Opp Eleven suf- fered defeat by the revived Tigers. Hartford and Florala were also taken by the strong Elba team However, the Tigers were overcome by Enterprise in their annual rival game. The undaunted spirit of the Tigers was fierce and strong as they handed defeats to Samson, Geneva, and Andalusia in suc- cession. An invitation and acceptance to play in the 14th annual Lion’s Bowl added a crowning touch to the spirit of a proud Tiger Eleven, and the 46-20 vi c- tory over Slocomb on the eve of Thanksgiving cli- maxed the 1967 Tiger record.
