Mr. Dermody has been at Elba Central School for eight years and through these years his cheerful disposition, his reliability and his genuine interest in people have continu- ally won him friends. It is through his efforts that national, state, and county prizes have been won by Elba's agricultural students. A The students of Elba Central School wish to pay tribute to an outstanding man, John Shuler, the President of the Board of Education, who died January 2, 1957. His co-operation and desire to reach a calm and reasonable decision of questions insured many satisfactory conclusions. Easy-going and willing to hear both sides of a story, he often related school problems with those of the community, which led to justice for all. As President of the Board of Education, he gave unspar- ingly of his time and thought, so that the students of this school could enjoy the best educational opportunities. The student-his welfare, citizenship, and growth in knowledge-- were foremost in Mr. Shuler's mind. He strove to reach these goals by advocating school expansion and improvement. To one so humble, yet so prominent in promoting the value of a sound education for all, we are sincerely grateful. A
