J 4 V Xtil X Way back in 26 six of the present seniors fearfully entered the old high school building to begin the quest for knowledge The tearful l?l half of this group was Virginia Krueger Jane Bonney and Mary Watson The others were Harriet Calarco Charles Foster and Alfonso Calarco ln the years following Robert Boyce Paul Zambito and Betty Schuler joined the class. During the seventh and eighth years in school many brilliant members were added to our group some of whom moved away or did not return However the Freshman Class of l935 l936 changed very little from its early composition-Betty Corn- well was our only newcomer Gradually the class of twenty eight diminished until now we have a group of twenty Meanwhile the members of our group moved about like puppets Elton Smith transferred from Parker l-ligh School in Clarence last fall. Beulah Eichler and Virginia Krueger returned to the Elba Central School in September l938. For our class advisor we selected Mr. Benton. Under such able leadership we startled the school by many novel ideas. The banner purchased in the Seventh Grade was hung in front of the old study hall-o precedent established for other classes to follow. Our motto has always been cooperation and com radeship , and so our gawkiness was never too noticeable. Sophomore year we took the school by stormi We gave dancing lessons, sponsored tea dances, and acquired a bank roll by selling peanuts. Miss Shep- 1 hard proved to be an ideal person to carry on Mr. Benton's work. limit Til cmss Histoiav lr If ln I MJF l 1 r V 4, l l 'fl yi l Junior year went by all too quickly. We continued our sophomore policies, presented a comedy, Mountain Mumps -a huge success by the reports--, and a Junior Prom, where our best gowns made an appearance. The gymnasium in the old school was transformed by a false ceiling of balloons into o magical ballroom. We, the initial Senior Class, held the first dance in the new central school. e The Green Light , a mystery ploy that will go down in the annals of school history, was given under the direction of Miss England and the cooperation of Mr. Benton. Modern class rings and graduation invitations were selected and the traditional black gowns are to be discarded for white and maroon. The Seniors have ably prepared a bigger and better REVUE and are now writing their own Class Night play. A Senior Ball is to be held in June and a trip to the Thousand Islands is anticipated.
