VARSITY FINISHES TOUGH SEASON This year’s varsity baseball team, coached by Mr. Tom McCaffrey and Mr. Dan DeLeon, had a very challenging season in Sea View League competition. The team put in a great amount of ef- fort and dedication into its pre-season games and practices to gain experience for the upcoming season. With only six returning players the team got off to a good start by beating Laguna Beach 5-3 in the first game. The team used its strengths to its advantage during the season. We were a very strong defen- sive team and a good hitting team, said Coach McCaffrey. The outstanding players throughout the season were pit- cher Mike Lomeli, pitcher Doug Maher, first-baseman James Covarrubias and outfielder Mark Matranga. The season was highlighted by the team’s participa- tion in the Western Baseball Classic in Las Vegas over Easter vacation. 1. Varsity Baseball team — Top Row: Coach Dan DeLeon. JV TEAM FINISHES STRONG SEASON This year s junior varsity baseball team, under the direction of Coach Dan DeLeon and Coach Kurt Dockman, started the season lacking in ex- perience. We started to see results ear- ly in the season as they were very en- thusiastic and coachable athletes. said Coach DeLeon. Even though the team was inexperienced they won their first five games. The season’s outstanding players were pitcher first baseman Dan Arritt and shortstop pitcher Tom Barr. 1. Todd Inglehart concentrates on the pitch. 2.
