(Character, - ' (Citizenship, linoHtleftge, «tttit Chills I X? EPUESENT the objectives of an education in El Reno High School. A foundation for character building can be found in the classrooms and on the campus of this school. In the outlined studies and activities there is afforded an organized system of personal development of character, mind, and body, both in the curricular and extra-curricular educational programs. Citizenship training enters into the educational program through both the classroom and outside activities. I he individual leader is taught to adjust himself to the group, thus enriching the advantages of both. I his same citizenship training will later enable the student to adapt himself, in his vocation, to the civic and social life of the community in which he may live. Not all knowledge is found under the covers of books. Some of the most valuable knowledge that can be gained during four years of high school education is found, perhaps, in the association of the individual with classmates and teachers, the coming in contact with their ideas and ideals. Without this knowledge, an education could not be considered complete nor could one be said to possess “true” knowledge. 1 hrough the many types of courses which are offered in this school, under supervised instruction, the student is allowed an opportunity to develop the particular talents which he may possess, thus learning to become skillful in his vocational choice. This practical skill is not the only skill which the student has developed upon the completion of his education, but he has also learned to imagine, leason, create, and “do , all of which play an important part in living. In the 19.18 BOOMER we are preserving, through word and picture, a record of El Reno High Schools progress during the 1937-38 school year, both in the curricular and extra-curricular programs, towards the attainment of the objectives which are here set forth. Dedication During the dozen years we have been engaged in the pursuit of our present educational goal—graduation from high school—no group has loved us, provided for us, guided us, and sacrificed time, energy, and effort for us like those who are nearest our hearts, our parents. Heie we acknowledge their deep interest in the educational progress and vital success of their sons and daughters, the seniors of 1938, and do cheerfully and whole-heartedly dedi- cate this volume of the El Reno High School BOOMER to our parents, whom we love and respect.
