Retiring Remarks by J. ETCHESON--Repeat All-Conference, unanimous senior year--varsity scoring record 1221 in three years--season record 548 points—most valuable player senior year—free throw trophy senior year--honorable mention to Little All-State--a fine all around basketball player—an outstanding shooter. K. ROBERTS--A strong rebounder and an outstanding defensive player. All-Conference senior year. Keith made it because he tries harder. K. KAYS—All-Conference senior year. A rugged rebounder and good shooter. His humor and wit were very important. He gave the team a lot of backbone. R. BOHLANDER--A11 of the opposing guards will be glad when Chunky is no longer around to harass them. No one can believe his shot under the basket. D. STIMPERT—The best one-legged ball player around. He and Rick made a very tough pair of defensive guards. Big men always wondered at the way he tipped . Returning Next Dave Fever—Manager 22 Rick Heiken

This Season The 1966-67 Comets compiled a 13-1 record to finish in a tie for the Mid-State Conference championship. The predominately senior ball club averaged 74 points per game and held opponents to an average of 59 points. Twice the club scored over 100 points setting a school record of 104 points in a single game. The Comets were paced by senior forward Jon Etcheson, one of the finest basketball players in the state. Red set two records in his career at El Paso. His total of 548 set a season scoring record, and his three year varsity, that of 1221, was a school high. To go with Etcheson's fine performance was a spirit of team play that was outstanding. Each player's unselfish attitude and willingness to work hard made it a fine team, and a great one to work with from a coach's viewpoint. J.V. Squad FIRST ROW (L. to R.) J. Higgins, T. Everett, M. Duffy, M. Duffy, D. Rathbun, D. Hostetler. TOP ROW: D. Malcom, J. Summy, L Dunmire, M. Stokes, S. Stauter, D. Punke, Coach Stoeffler. 21

Comets Coach Sullivan T. WICKENHAUSER--Tom is equally at home as a guard or a forward. An outstanding passer and impossible to push around. J. GREENE--A strong forward, deceptively quick, and a good rebounder. The Silent Sam of the team. J. HANKEY--A quick ball player with a good head for the game. John never will be caught napping. A good shooter, who I wish would have shot more. R. HEIKPN—A tall player with a good attitude. Outstanding feature--he is back next year. A good rebounder who has a big job next year. Can do. C. KNEPP--The way he moves there may be two of him. A lot of speed, a good defense, and a JUNIOR. S. DAVISON—Most people not connected with the team don't know what a good outside shooter this boy is. Next year he will demonstrate. Season Curt Knepp 23 Steve Davison
