COMETS WIN 7 LOSE 2 Eight lettermen composed the nucleus of the 1956 Comet team. The Comet eleven won its first five starts before being set back by Chenoa, 26-7 and Fairbury, 51-6. The Comets then went on to beat Deer-Creek Mackinaw, 12-7 and then climaxed the season by trouncing Minonk, 33-0. With the able assistance of Coach Kadlec, the Comets finished the season with a 7-2 record. This year there was a Tackling Trophy presented to the boy with the most tackles during the season. The winner of this trophy was Don Hartter with 58 tackles. Some of the Comet gridsters who furnished tough competition for Don were Jim McHugh, Everett Stine, Bob McKinley, and Gordon Mool. Also this year El Paso dominated the Mid-State teams by placing Jim McHugh, Bob McKinley, Everett Stine, Don Hartter, and Dennis Parkhouse on the first team with John Dodson, Dick Brown, and Allen Harroun receiving honorable mention. BEST SEASON IN DECADE The El Paso Comets composed of two seniors and five juniors accumulated a record of 15 wins and 9 losses during the 1956-1957 season. The Comets finished third in the Mid State Conference with a 9-5 record. The Comets added another trophy to their showcase by winning second place in the Woodford County Tournament. Bill Colburn, top scorer for the Comets, was chosen for a position on the All-Conference Team. Receiving honorable mention were Dennis Parkhouse, senior, and Phil Cryer, junior.
