Dear Students, Today more and more demands are being placed upon the school. Since the Russians put the first Earth Satellite into orbit the schools are being critized for failure to turn out scientists who could accomplish this first. Certainly we know that schools alone were not the cause of this. But, be that as it may, this should help us to see the importance of education in this atomic age. In this era, high school education is a foundation for youth, a foundation for schools of higher learning or a foundation for a good citizen tak ing his place in a community. I pledge myself to help you, the students and the teachers, to make this school one of the best in the nation. Let us all work toward accomplishing this goal. Remember Better Schools Make Better Communities . Thank You. Sincerely 3.1,-lm fW'm-'- The history of America is replete with famous American people who were born into humble cir- cumstances and began what appeared to be an unfavorable future. Despite adversity these men and women climbed to the very top of the success ladder in many different fields of endeavor. They have made America great. The American public school system, unlike any other in the world, provides a common ground where boys and girls have a chance to forget the raw material of ambition and opportunity into a successful life. You must furnish the ambition. The challenge is yours. X Superintendent t 1 '. 7
