4'lU'N gafqgl, N EARL WALKER Supormtsndont El Dorado Sprxngl Mo I am again happy to greet you in this manner I recall the words of John Dewey, who 13 some times spoxen of as the father of American Educa tion HTne conmmn1ty's duty to education is its paramount moral duty By law and punishment, by social agitation and d1SCUSSiOH,SOC16ty can reg and chance way But through education society can organize its own means and resources and thus shape itself with definiteness and econom in the direction in which it wishes to move H How well the above can be applied to District H 2 We are now in a planning and plastic stage United we can organize our own potentiallties to produce a well balanced, effective and needed school program Adeguate educational opportuni ties and egual educational opportunities are two important goals that should guide u in all our decisions if we want the best for our most valu able possessions our children Again quoting Mr Dewey Hlt is the business of everyone interested in education to insist upon the school as the primary and most effective strument of social progress El Dorado Spr-mgs Publ1c Schools N EARL WALKER Supermtendsnt E1 Dorado Springs Mo. A well organized school should be a cooperative institution with delinite responsibilities being assumed by the faculty, the patrons, and the stu- dents In these crucial days it seems that there rests upon the students the special obligation of preparing themselves'as fully as possible for max- imum service, upon the patrons 'nd faculty the responsibility of offering wise counsel and guid- ance to these youths. Time was when the three H's Creadin', ritin', 'rithmetic,l were the center of emphasis in our curriculum. These continue to deserve much consideration but through the home, the community, and the school we can cooperatively develop three additional R's, namely gights of 3 good citizen, responsibilities of citizenship, and proper relationships one with another. Empha- sis upon the 6 H's has been the goal of the El Dorado Springs High School for 1953. A . El Dorado Springs Public Schools IIN. W3 Q ' ulate and form itself kia more or less haphazard in ' Jr
