Project Keep Anchors Busy The EHS Anchor Club began their 1973-74 voyage by charting a course through service projects and social functions. In May new members were selected and proved their worthiness at an initiation bunking party held in August. Anchors served as guides during school orientation day for sophomores and juniors. Spon- sorship of the South Arkansas Junior Miss Pageant involved the club in preparations for displaying the Smile-It's Wonderful theme which adequately described the Anchors' feelings afterward when the pageant proved a tremendous success. Homecoming saw the Anchor Club float capture first place with Remember When We Uncorked Our Wildcat Spirit! Trophies were polished and the EHS parking lot received a thorough clean-up by club members. Christmas goodwill was reflected by the girls as they rang bells for the Salvation Army, filled kiddy bags, and decorated a tree for the annual Christmas party. Anchors became sly secret pals who skillfully surprised a fellow member with small Christmas gifts. The Anchor Club contributed their time in the effort to collect funds for medical research. A Bozo Carnival was sponsored by the club as a unique method of earning money for the Arthritis Foundation. The girls also collected for the Muscular Dystrophy, Heart Fund, and Mentally Retarded by station- ing members at various businesses' locations. Another service project was ushering for the Fine Arts Center and Municipal Auditorium. Club funds were increased by a stationery sale. Spring and summer fashions were modeled in the annual Anchor Club style show. Wonderful World of Color was selected as theme with various cartoons used as background decorations. Outfits were modeled by senior members and juniors provided the entertain- ment with a lively dance routine to the Mickey Mouse Song . Proceeds from the style show were used to replenish the Susan Russell Memorial Scholarship and prepare for Cotillion, the club's annual for- mal dance. The year ended with the annual mother-daughter banquet and installation of new officers. I l l l
