Un the west wall is a large banner with ARKANSAS spelled out a souvenir ol' the band's trip to the New York XVorld's Fair in l939, when it repre- sented the State ol' Arkansas. On the north wall is the banner which was carried when the Ozark Ordnance XVorks was presented the Army-Navy E award. On the same wall are autographed pictures of the famed violinist, Rubinoff: Cap- tain William Santllemann, leader of the Marine Band, and its accomplished solo- ists. There are pictures of state and regional elinies, where members of the band participated with students over the South in making music. 'l'here are souvenirs of the band's trip to New Orleans when it again represented the state at the Lion's International Convention. There they entered in competition with 75 bands from nearly every state and several nations. The hand placed seventh in marching and concert work femerging more prosperous by a hundred dollars, and had the distinction of being the only band Chosen to appear on a special program given before 8,000 persons. BILLY MURPHY Pfl'Sidl'llt At intervals of a few feet are ntunerous plaques denoting honors received at state and district band eontests. Individual members brought home top honors from national contests. Hats straight, eyes front, heels against the steps, spats clean? They'd better be, the band's in concert formation

Wildcat Most people call it The Band Hall but it might not be amiss to tag it as a sort of Temple ol' Music. For it is there on the two floors above the stage of the high school auditorium that youngsters manage to squeeze their first fuzzy tone out ol a reluctant horn and gradually develop from the A'rookie stage to polished young musicians, and to a sense of pride that they play the music of the old masters preserved in almost religious tradition. This is not intended to paint a picture of long hair activities. They have a big time. They're normal. But they all develop toward the goal of being able to put out high-calibre, wholesome nmsic. LEONARD FULKERSON A trip to the band hall is an interesting visit when the band is in D 'i session or out. Sure. it's thc Christmas Concert - Remember how they played YVhite Christmas?
