Four Speech members posted a District 25 AAAA record by placing first in each of the individual speaking events. Joan Hogan placed first in poetry reading. Jimmy Hall placed first in persuasive reading. John Cisneros placed first in prose reading. Darrell Fox placed first in informative speaking vvhile Rose Linseisen placed second and Garland Berry placed fourth. The Debate team of Katrine Linseisen and Carri Reed placed fourth. The One Act Play 'tArsenic and Old Lace did not place in district competition. Joan Hogan and Katrine Linseisen placed on the All- Star cast. The German Club, under the sponsorship of Mr. Paul Soecht- ing, revealed a dedication to the German culture. The German Dancers performed at the Texas Folklife Festival, the El Campo Grande Day, the banquet of the Victoria German Department, and the New Braunfels Wurst- fest. The German Club also pre- sented A German Christmas. De' Ann Weimer, Delfin Marek, Kirk l-louston, Hoby Miller, Carol Helmcamp, and little Erica Soechting presented a play by Bertolt Brecht entitled Der Angs- burger Kreiderkreis, In a San Marcos contest, the German Dancers placed first, and the play placed second. ln state competition, the German Danc- ers placed second, and the play placed seventh.
