SEASON SUMMARY The Ricebirds started the season off from the top. Their first Opponent was Victoria. an AAA team. the score ended 12-0 Vic- toria on top. The next week the Birds were the definite underdogs against a strong Beeville team. But the unpredictable Ricebirds won that game T-6. The next one was the toughest. El Campo vs. the Huntsville Hornets. the final score was 26-6, Huntsville. The Hor- nets went on to semi-finals. The Hicebirds made up for lost time by wallowing the Edna Cowboys 25-14. Feeling good after a taste of victory the Birds were ready for the unbeaten Bellville Brahmas, and again victory was ours T-0. Bellville won the bi-district from Bay City later on in the season. Then District play started with Boling the first on our list. ln this game as all through the season El Campo was picked the underdogs. The Boling game ended in a T-T deadlock. Lamar was favored to win District championship, but the Ricebirds showed them we were not to be slighted, the score of that game was T-T, another tie. The Ricebirds needed a win to make up for these two tie games. The Roughnecks of West Columbia were likely victims and the Birds smothered them 23-T. With no district losses under their belts the Ricebirds went to Wharton to beat the Tigers 14-T in a hard fought game. Bay City was out for the district title and so were we. With about half the starting lineup out the Ricebirds met the full force of the Black Cats and held them to a three touchdown DICKIE MORTON JOHN NORDEEN lead, the score ended 19-0. C0'C'1P'ai 5 This was a successful year for the Ricebirds and, as in years past, they showed fine spirit and excellent sportsmanship. .s . , ,, 4, A A . Q x 5 f' F.
