Zkkk Long ago, the Narkosa Tribe fell upon hard times as the buffalo, upon which they depended for food, began to disappear from their area. A long and tedious winter of searching out what little food there was available under the snow resulted in the death of the very old and the very young and left those strong enough to survive pale and weak from hunger. The spring brought fresh small game, and some relief but the next winter claimed still more victims. One day a stranger appeared dressed in a black robe. He told of peace and friendship which all men should lcnow. The Narkosas, having never seen such a man before, thought him to be a god who had been sent to relieve them of their sufferings. The man taught the tribe to dig in the ground and plant the many seeds that he carried with him in a strange sack. He kept the Indians weeding and Watering and caring for the young plants that sprang from the ground. When the fall came there was a large harvest and great amounts of food were stored away for winter. From that time the Narkosas sowed and harvested grain for their livelihood and were grateful for the happier and more abundant life that their friend had given them.
