Class Of '62 El Cajon Valley High School has never been the same, since 1962, when our campus was brightened by the warm and friendly manner of Uli Prusa, our first foreign exchange student from Austria. Her visit launched the American Field Service at our school. A new annual affair was also initiated in 1962, when the first Mardi Gras was held. The entertainment included night club acts, old time movies, and even a marriage booth. Who can forget our football team, which placed second in the Grossmont League, or the heart-pounding Grossmont game, when we captured the Peace Pipe by a close 14- 13 decision. Topping off a memorable year, our award-winning Braves Marching Band and Specialty Corps won the sweepstakes trophy at Corona, and for the second time in three years, gained the honor of participating in the Rose Parade. The class of 1962 left lasting evidence of their school spirit in their presentation of the Alma Mater which hangs in the gym and the glittering dome light which adds enchantment to the major dances of the year. 12 W , ,,,,.. You could never find this sport listed in the Olympics, but it was a lot fun for those who participated. Nineteen sixty-one was also a year of literary accomplishment. THOUGHT, a magazine containing the best student Writing of the year, was first introduced to the stu- dent body. The theatrical highlight was The Whole Town's Talking, a farce with a Roaring Twenties setting. But the Senior Class looked to the future and presented the school with a clock and a scoreboard to be incorporated into the plans of the new gymnasium. .. fe asrwt r ,, - ' fy , Q: 3 iq Q 1-wifi-J, f ,mm 1,::.w. Class Of '63 The year 1962-63 brought about many new additions to our campusg new fads, new faces, and new leaders, but the biggest change of all was the building of the new gymnasitun. This addition made possible many new and varied activities. Early in the year, the walls of the gym rang with shouts and laughter as Donkey Basketball made its exciting debut. Later, WEST SIDE STORY, the largest Broadway hit ever attempted on our campus, was presented before a two-night, full-house audience. The Band and Specialty Corps presented many fine halftime shows during the year, but one of the finest contained a real live Hollywood star. Mickey Mouse, Erie childhood favorite, made his first personal appearance outside of Disneyland, and performed with our band before hundreds of delighted Braves. The Senior Class of 1963 ended their high school days by donating the funds for a Senior fountain to be installed on the Senior lawn. Sr. Class Pres.
