5 Linda Atwood Tom Atwood Marilyn Brown Phil Souder read the oath to the other officers in preparation for the fall tapping assembly. Officers were: Phil Souder, president, Anne Hislcp, vice-president, Malcolm Ulrich, treasurer, and Linda Frank, secretary. NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY The National Honor Society tapped a total of fifty students for membership this year in one fall and one spring assembly. This year's chapter was almost twice as large as Eisenhower's initial group in 1958. In addition to the two assemblies a spring picnic was held for members and guests. The profit from this function was donated to the foreign exchange student program. 26 Fifteen percent of each year's senior class is tapped into National Honor Society. At the spring assembly five percent is taken from each iunior class, and the other ten percent is selected as seniors in two assemblies, one each semester. Each spring assembly thus involves tapping both iuniors and seniors with the iuniors providing the carryover each year. The National Honor Society sets the minimum grade average at 3.0 to be eligible for initiation. After a student qualifies in this respect and if he is still in the top fifteen percent of his class, he is judged on the other three cardinal principles of the national organization . . . LEADERSHIP, SERVICE, AND CHARACTER. Russ Barron Karen Bergstrom Donna Borton Janet Brown Patti Cline Mike Coleman Colin Conant Nick Cooper
